Resident Evil 4 is Capcom's reimagining of the 2005 classic, released in March 2023. Agent Leon Kennedy heads to a remote Spanish village to rescue the U.S. president's daughter from a fanatical cult. What looks like a simple extraction turns into a fight against the Las Plagas parasite and its grotesque hosts. The remake keeps the spirit of the original — that tension–breather–panic rhythm — while giving it modern visuals, reworked controls and a knife you can now use to parry attacks and finish enemies.

What's inside Gold Edition

Gold Edition is the most complete build of the game. A single key gets you three pieces of content at once:

  • Resident Evil 4 — the full base game, Leon's main campaign.
  • Separate Ways — a story DLC where you play as Ada Wong. Ada has her own grappling hook for traversal and ranged attacks, her own areas, and a fresh perspective on the main story. The episode launched on September 21, 2023.
  • Extra DLC Pack — a set of bonuses for the main game: alternative costumes, extra weapons and useful items.

You don't need to buy the base game separately — it's already part of Gold Edition. That's the key difference from buying the standalone Separate Ways DLC, which won't run without the main game.

Why the remake hits

Combat feels closer and more tactile: over-the-shoulder aiming, weighty recoil, and the ability to parry even Dr. Salvador's chainsaw with your knife. The village, Salazar's castle and the island are rebuilt and expanded — familiar set-pieces play out in new ways, and the atmosphere presses harder thanks to lighting, fog and sound. The Merchant is back, buying, selling and tuning your arsenal with his trademark “Welcome, stranger.”

Modes and extra content

Beyond the main campaign and Separate Ways, the game includes the free The Mercenaries mode — an arcade survival run clearing waves of enemies against the clock for a high score. It's available to every owner of the game at no extra cost.

How to activate the key

The key activates on Steam: open the client, go to the “Games” menu → “Activate a Product on Steam”, enter the code, and Gold Edition appears in your library with all included content. The key is global and activates worldwide with no regional restrictions. The game is Steam Deck verified, so it runs nicely on handheld too.
