Resident Evil 3: back to Raccoon City with Nemesis on your trail
Resident Evil 3 is the remake of the 1999 classic (Resident Evil 3: Nemesis), released by Capcom in April 2020 on the modern RE Engine. You once again play as Jill Valentine during the final hours before the T-virus outbreak swallows Raccoon City whole. This time, though, you're not just dodging zombies โ you're being hunted by Nemesis, a bio-weapon engineered specifically to track down and eliminate the surviving members of S.T.A.R.S. Here you get a Steam key for the full game: activate the code and the copy is tied to your account for good.
What the game is and why it lands
In short, it's survival horror built around running rather than holding ground. The classic escape-the-city story is reimagined with new staging, reworked Raccoon City locations, and an updated combat system featuring a dodge and a perfect-dodge that lets you break away from an enemy at the right moment. Over the course of the story Jill teams up with Carlos Oliveira of the U.B.C.S., and you play several sections as him, with his own pace and arsenal.
The remake's defining feature is Nemesis. He isn't bound to scripted moments the way ordinary bosses are: he chases you through the streets, smashes through cover, mutates as the plot advances, and keeps you constantly planning your escape route. The tension here doesn't come from dark mansion corridors like in Resident Evil 2 โ it's the feeling that the whole city is a trap you need to escape before it's too late.
What the key includes: the game + Resident Evil Resistance
Alongside the single-player campaign, the package includes Resident Evil Resistance โ a separate 1-vs-4 online mode. Four survivors try to escape a series of test chambers while a fifth player, the Mastermind, sets traps, summons zombies, and gets in their way โ even taking direct control of Nemesis or a Tyrant. Capcom bundled Resistance into the standard release from launch, so there's nothing extra to buy โ it's already part of your key.
- ๐ง The full Resident Evil 3 single-player campaign (2020 remake).
- ๐ฅ The asymmetric online mode Resident Evil Resistance (1 vs 4).
- ๐พ Owned outright: after activation the game stays on your Steam account.
Editions and key variants
In our catalog Resident Evil 3 is offered as the full base version โ the standard release with the campaign and Resistance. The game has no extended editions with exclusive story content, so there's nothing to overpay for: you're getting the complete game.
The variants differ only by activation region. ROW (Rest of World) is the key for activation outside the CIS. CIS is the key for Russia and the CIS countries. The contents are identical โ the only difference is which region Steam will accept the code in. Pick the variant that matches your account region so activation goes smoothly.
How to activate the key in Steam
Everything is done through standard Steam tools, no third-party software:
- Open Steam and, at the bottom of the client or in the โGamesโ menu, choose โActivate a Product on Steamโฆโ.
- Enter the activation code you received and confirm.
- The game links to your account and appears in your library โ all that's left is to download it.
You don't need to already own a copy to activate: this is a key for the full game from scratch. After activation Resident Evil 3 is registered to your account as owned, with no subscriptions or renewals.
System requirements and platform
This is the PC (Windows) version on Steam. The game runs on the RE Engine โ the same one behind Resident Evil 2 and later entries in the series โ and is well optimized: with a decent mid-range GPU it runs smoothly even on high settings. Since it's a standard Steam build, it can also run on Steam Deck via the Proton compatibility layer โ it's always worth checking the current compatibility status on the game's Steam page before buying.
Who it's for
Resident Evil 3 is a great pick if you enjoy tense, cinematic horror with chase sequences and don't want to stretch a playthrough across dozens of hours: the campaign is more compact than Resident Evil 2's and keeps you on edge from start to finish. And if you want to make it last, the bundled Resistance gives you a reason to come back for online matches.
What else to check in the series
If the third remake clicks with you, it makes sense to look at the neighboring Capcom entries. This game's direct sibling is Resident Evil 2, the remake of the second part on the same engine and covering the same Raccoon City events. Further along the timeline and mood sits Resident Evil Village โ a grim village and Ethan Winters โ while a fresh take on a classic comes with Resident Evil 4.
