Dishonored 2 — a stealth-action where your style decides everything

Dishonored 2 is the second major chapter in Arkane Studios' signature series, released on November 11, 2016, published by Bethesda Softworks. It's a first-person immersive sim: you get a city, a target and full freedom in how you reach it. Play as a ghost who never kills or raises an alarm, or carve through enemies with a blade, blink behind their backs and unleash supernatural force on patrols. Buying the key gets you the full base game (Standard Edition) to activate on Steam.

What it's about

Fifteen years after the first game, the empire is ruled by Emily Kaldwin, daughter of Corvo Attano. A coup strips her of the throne, and now you must take it back — on the tropical isle of Serkonos, in the sun-and-dust city of Karnaca. Unlike the grim, rainy Dunwall of the original, this is a different mood: southern architecture, wind, sand and mechanical marvels like Kirin Jindosh's clockwork mansion that rebuilds itself right under your feet.

Emily or Corvo — two heroes, two games

At the very start you choose who to play, and it's not cosmetic. Corvo carries his familiar kit: Blink (a teleport dash), Possession, time-slowing. Emily has her own powers: Far Reach pulls her toward a target like a grapple, Doppelganger spawns a shadow ally, Domino links enemies into one fate. The same level feels different with each hero, which is why many players run the game twice. The hero choice doesn't change the key — it's one and the same game.

Stealth that respects the player

The pride of Dishonored 2 is its level design. Jindosh's mansion is a shifting maze-puzzle, and the «Crack in the Slab» mission lets you swap on the fly between the past and present of the same estate, watching how your actions in one era reshape the other. The chaos system reacts to how much blood you spill: more bodies, a darker world and ending. A pacifist run here isn't a difficulty toggle — it's a separate way to tell the story.

A world you believe in

Karnaca isn't just a backdrop. The city runs on windmill-driven dust pumps fed by its mines, and that same air carries the bloodfly — the local plague. Every mansion, alley and tavern is packed with notes, conversations and details that build the story without a single cutscene. The art style, with its rough, almost painterly textures, ages gracefully: years later Dishonored 2 still looks expressive rather than «dated-realistic». The soundtrack and sound design serve stealth — by a guard's footsteps and a creaking board you can literally hear where a path opens up.

How much game is here

The campaign is nine large missions, each with its own theme and set of routes. With two heroes, the chaos system (low/high) and non-lethal ways to remove every target, replayability is genuinely high: a clean ghost run and a brutal storm run are two different adventures. Add New Game Plus, where you can mix Emily's and Corvo's powers in a single playthrough. If you collect runes, bonecharms and upgrade blueprints, you'll spend even longer in Karnaca.
