Rogue Trader is the first-ever classic party-based CRPG set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, made by Owlcat Games, the team behind the Pathfinder games. It launched on December 7, 2023 and has grown a deep library of story expansions since. You take the title of a Rogue Trader — a Lord Captain with your own Warrant of Trade, a fleet, and near-limitless authority on the edge of the Koronus Expanse. Turn-based tactical combat, sprawling branching dialogue, companions with their own arcs and romances — that is Rogue Trader.

What a Rogue Trader is, and why the role is so rare in 40K

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, Rogue Traders are the only ones the Imperium officially permits to sail beyond its borders, trade with xenos, and claim new worlds in the Emperor's name. You are not just a hero — you hold the power of life and death over entire planets. A single dialogue choice can be a blessing for your subjects or a pyre for heretics. The game genuinely lets you be whoever you want: a pious instrument of the Emperor's will, a cynical merchant prince, or someone who flirts with powers best left untouched.

Editions: from the base game to the Voidfarer Edition

There are several options — pick what fits you:

• Rogue Trader (base game) — the full core campaign. It is enough to play the entire main story, and every expansion attaches to it.
• Deluxe Pack — a bundle of digital extras and cosmetics: artbook, soundtrack, wallpapers, plus unique in-game items (the Lord Captain's throne, a Firestorm-class frigate, a cherub pet, and a set of unique weapons). It is an add-on and requires the base game.
• Deluxe Edition — the base game together with the Deluxe Pack contents in one key.
• Voidfarer Edition — the most complete edition: base game, the Season Pass (Void Shadows + Lex Imperialis), and the Deluxe extras. If you want everything at once, this is it.
• Voidfarer Pack — a bundle of the extra digital materials and cosmetics from the Voidfarer edition; it attaches to the base game.

Story expansions (DLC)

Owlcat keeps supporting Rogue Trader with large story expansions, each adding around 15 hours of gameplay, a new companion, and quests woven into the main story:

• Void Shadows — the first expansion: a genestealer infestation aboard your own flagship, a new romanceable companion, and dozens of hours of fresh content.
• Lex Imperialis — the second premium expansion (released June 24, 2025): a story tied to Imperial justice and the Adeptus Arbites.
• Season Pass — both Void Shadows and Lex Imperialis in a single key, cheaper than buying them separately.
• Season Pass 2 — the second set of expansions: The Infinite Museion (a raid into a Necron vault curated by Trazyn the Infinite, already available) and Processional of the Damned (a voyage through a graveyard of lost ships, releasing later in 2026). Buying Season Pass 2 now gives you instant access to Museion, while the second expansion unlocks automatically once it launches.

Every expansion requires the base Rogue Trader game — this is content built on top of the core campaign, not standalone games.

Key region — read this carefully

Some listings are global keys: they activate on Steam worldwide with no restrictions. Other listings are marked as CIS region: such a key only activates on a Steam account set to a CIS country (Russia and neighboring states). If your account region is different, a CIS key may fail to activate. Before buying, match the listing's region with your Steam account region — that prevents almost every activation issue.

How to activate the key on Steam

Open the Steam client, click "+ Add a Game" at the bottom-left, choose "Activate a Product on Steam", accept the agreement, and enter your code. The game or expansion appears in your library and starts downloading. For expansions, the base Rogue Trader must already be on the same account.

Where to play

Rogue Trader is a PC title (Windows). It runs well on Steam Deck, and plenty of players go through it exactly that way — turn-based combat and real-time-with-pause suit the Deck's controls nicely. It is a massive CRPG spanning dozens of hours (hundreds with all expansions), so make room on your drive and bring patience for the lore.
