Owlcat Games, the team behind Pathfinder, took the grimdark universe of the 41st millennium and built what 40k fans had wanted for years — a large narrative RPG with companions, choices and consequences. Here you're not a nameless Imperial soldier but a Rogue Trader — holder of a Warrant of Trade, an ancient document that places you almost beyond the law: explorer, merchant, diplomat and feudal lord all at once. You're handed a voidship, a retinue and the right to expand the Imperium's borders in the dangerous Koronus Expanse. What you do with that is up to you.

What the game is about and why it grips you

The story unfolds in the Koronus Expanse — a mostly uncharted stretch of the galaxy reachable from the Imperium only through one treacherous route, the Koronus Passage. You travel from planet to planet aboard your own voidship, deal with cults, xenos and the Inquisition, decide the fate of entire worlds and get drawn into intrigues where no side is cleanly "good". Every major decision leans on your conviction — Dogmatic, Heretical or Iconoclast — and the game genuinely remembers who you were. It's a classic isometric RPG: turn-based party combat, character builds, gear, hundreds of lines of dialogue and companions with their own quests.

Your retinue and companions

Your party holds up to six characters including you, the Lord Captain. Companions come from wildly different factions — the smuggler Jae Heydari, the Aeldari ranger Yrliet, the Drukhari Marazhai, the Space Wolves Astartes Ulfar and more. Each has a personality, a personal quest line, moral convictions and even romance options. How they react to you depends on who you keep close and what choices you make — up to whether they stay at all.

What this product includes

You're buying the full base version of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader for Steam as a gift. It's the same official Owlcat Games release as in the regular Steam store: it lands in your library, updates normally and receives patches. The story add-ons Void Shadows (released September 24, 2024) and Lex Imperialis (released June 24, 2025) are NOT part of this gift — they're separate DLC that attach to the base game and can be bought on Steam later when you want more.

How we deliver the gift

Rogue Trader is a large RPG of dozens of hours, so set aside time for reading, dialogue and turn-based battles. It rewards thoughtful decisions and tactics rather than action reflexes.
