Among Us on Steam: the social deduction game that ends friendships

Among Us is an online game about trust and betrayal aboard a spaceship. A crew of 4–15 players keeps the ship running by finishing simple tasks, but one or more impostors hide among them, quietly trying to pick off everyone else. Someone finds a body, hits the emergency meeting button, and it begins: accusations, alibis, 'I was in Electrical, ask yellow', a vote, and someone gets ejected into space. What the game is and why people keep coming back

Among Us was made by the small indie studio InnerSloth. It launched back in 2018 and hit Steam on November 16, 2018, but the real explosion came later, when streamers and friend groups on voice calls poured in. The trick is simple: the magic isn't in the graphics, it's in the people. The impostor has to lie to your face, build alibis and frame the innocent; crewmates have to catch the inconsistencies and not vote out one of their own by mistake. One round ends in a flawless silent double-kill, the next in ten minutes of yelling on Discord. That's exactly why it stays fresh — every match is a new social puzzle.

How a round plays out

Crewmates run the map clearing tasks: fuel the engines, submit scans, divert power, get scanned in MedBay. Fill the shared task bar and you win — you don't even have to catch the impostor. The impostor kills players one by one, slips through vents, and sabotages oxygen or the reactor to scatter the crew. Their job is to thin the team out or push a sabotage to the end. Between bodies and meetings the deduction kicks in: who was where, who's too quiet, who bolted from the same room. There's rarely hard proof — just people you either believe or you don't.

Maps and modes

The game has several maps, each changing the rhythm: the cramped ship The Skeld, the MIRA HQ station, the planet base Polus, the multi-deck Airship, and the tropical Fungle island. The host tunes the match: number of impostors, speed, vision range, meeting length, whether impostors get fake tasks, and dozens of other sliders. Want hardcore for veterans or a chill lobby for newcomers — it's all in the settings. There's also a separate Hide n Seek mode, where a single impostor hunts the scattering crew with no meetings or voting — pure adrenaline and running across the map.

What's included

This is the full base version of Among Us for PC — no cutdowns, no subscription. Cosmetics (hats, skins, pets, gravestones) and the Cosmicube pass are bought separately in-game and are purely for looks — they don't affect gameplay, balance or winning at all. So one key per person is all you need to play with friends.
