Warhammer 40,000: Darktide β co-op carnage in the Tertium hive
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a co-op first-person shooter from Fatshark, the studio behind the Vermintide series β only this time the action moves from a fantasy Old World to the grim darkness of the 41st millennium. A squad of four plays as convicts pressed into Inquisition service to purge the vast hive city of Tertium from the cults of Chaos. It isn't a slow tactical shooter but a dense, fast slaughter: heretic hordes pour in from every side and you chew through them with chainswords, lasguns and bolters, holding the line until extraction.
Here you're buying the game as a Steam gift. After payment our bot adds itself as your friend and sends the gift β you just accept it in Steam, and Darktide is yours to keep on your account.
What the game is and why it clicks
Darktide launched on November 30, 2022 and has grown a lot since: full talent trees for every class, a crafting/crusade loop, new enemies and maps. At its core are four operative classes: the durable Ogryn bruiser, the warp-wielding Psyker, the versatile Veteran sharpshooter and the melee-fanatic Zealot. Each plays differently, and the synergies between them decide whether the squad survives to the exit.
The standout is the feel of combat. Melee hits land with real weight, hordes react to your blows, and the roar of a bolter or chainsword nails the Warhammer 40K aesthetic. If horde co-op in Vermintide 2 or the grim bombast of Space Marine 2 worked for you, Darktide rides a familiar wave with its own identity.
Base version vs Imperial Edition β which to pick
This page offers two gift variants:
- Base version β the full Darktide game with all current content. Nothing extra to buy to play: pick it if you just want the game and don't care about cosmetics.
- Imperial Edition β the same full game plus a bundle of extras: the Loyalist Pack (4 class outfits, 8 weapon skin patterns, dedicated headgear and an Ogryn tattoo), the cosmetic Mortis portrait frame, the Caducades backpack, the official soundtrack and 2500 Aquilas β the premium currency used to buy cosmetics from the in-game rotating shop.
Aquilas and cosmetics don't affect gameplay or character power β they're purely visual style. So the choice is simple: just want to play, grab the base; want to look sharp from the start and have premium currency on hand, grab the Imperial Edition.
How the gift is delivered
Delivery is via Steam Gift, not a key. You provide a friend invite link (s.team/p/...) and your account region, place the order β and the bot does the rest: adds itself, sends the gift, then removes itself once delivered. You don't accept the friend request, only the gift itself. Steam Guard isn't required. The whole process usually takes a couple of minutes from checkout.
Region and key conditions
This is a region-bound gift. For Steam to let you accept it, your account region must match the gift region, and Darktide must not already be in that account's library β Steam won't let a gift be accepted for a game you already own. Your profile privacy settings also need to allow friend requests, otherwise the bot can't reach you. If any of this doesn't line up, message us before paying and we'll advise on your case.
How long you'll play and who with
Darktide is built for a team of four, but if you don't have a live squad, AI-controlled bots fill the empty slots, so you can drop in and shoot solo too. Missions run around 20β40 minutes each, with difficulty modifiers and conditions (fog, blackout lighting, increased special-enemy spawns), and progress carries between runs: levels, weapons, talents and cosmetics stay with you. It's a live-service game in the good sense β easy to fire up for an evening session, and Fatshark keeps adding content through updates.
If you're new to the Warhammer 40K world
Darktide is a great entry point into co-op action in this universe: you don't need to know the whole lore to enjoy purging hordes. And if you want more, look at related titles: the same studio's previous game Warhammer: Vermintide 2, the story-driven action game in the same setting Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and the horde co-op shooter Helldivers 2. They're all about a tight squad against an endless tide of enemies β if Darktide clicked, these will too.
