The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered drops you into Cyrodiil, the imperial heartland of Tamriel, right as gates to the Deadlands start tearing open across the province. Rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5: the visual overhaul
Technically, Oblivion Remastered is a hybrid: visuals and UI now run on Unreal Engine 5, while the underlying gameplay logic still runs on a modified version of the original engine. In practice that means new character models, reworked lighting, dynamic weather and time-of-day cycles, plus 4K textures and a 60fps target on hardware that can push it. Weapon, spell, and movement animations have all been redone too — it's still recognizably Cyrodiil, just rendered completely differently. The audio got attention as well: some lines were re-recorded, and the new takes are mixed in alongside the original 2006 voice cast, giving characters more vocal variety than before.
Leveling, virtue points, and yes — sprint is finally here
The leveling system got simplified: on level-up you spend virtue points across attributes like Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, Agility, Speed, Endurance, Personality, and Luck, without the old min-max routine of juggling skill uses before resting. The remaster also added sprinting for the first time — something the 2006 original never had — which sounds small but noticeably changes the pace of exploring Cyrodiil. Combat and movement physics got touch-ups as well.
