Cyrodiil is still waiting. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion launched in 2006, reshaped the open-world RPG and remains one of Bethesda Game Studios' high points. The Emperor falls, the Oblivion Gates tear open, and you're the one who has to close them — joining the Thieves Guild, the Dark Brotherhood, the Mages or the Fighters, fighting in the Arena and building your own legend along the way. The Game of the Year Edition is the fullest version of classic Oblivion: you get a Steam activation key, and the game plus its add-ons stay on your account forever.

What GOTY is and how it differs from Deluxe

We carry two editions and the difference is simple and honest:

• Oblivion GOTY — the base game plus two major expansions: Shivering Isles, a whole new realm ruled by the mad Daedric Prince Sheogorath, and Knights of the Nine, a paladin storyline.
• Oblivion GOTY Deluxe — all of the above plus eight smaller official DLC: the vampire lair Vile Lair, the Orrery, the Wizard's Tower, the Mehrunes' Razor quest, The Thieves Den, the Fighter's Stronghold player home, Spell Tome Treasures and the Horse Armor pack.

One thing worth knowing about Deluxe: on Steam this edition is English-only. If playing in another language matters to you, look at the plain GOTY and, if needed, community localizations.

This is the original, not the remaster

April 2025 brought a separate Oblivion Remastered on a new engine, with overhauled visuals and modernized gameplay. What's sold here is the classic 2006 original in its Steam Game of the Year Edition (Steam release in 2009). It's the very game a whole generation grew up on: the distinctive facial animations, the early radiant AI, that cozy mid-2000s atmosphere. If you specifically want the remaster — that's a different key, don't mix them up.

Why people still love Oblivion

Cyrodiil is rolling green hills, Imperial cities and Ayleid ruins you can wander for dozens of hours. The guilds aren't just quest lists but full stories with intrigue and moral forks: rising to lead the Dark Brotherhood feels nothing like climbing the Mages Guild ranks. The learn-by-doing skill system, ragdoll physics and voiced NPCs with daily routines were revolutionary back then and have aged into a charming classic that's a joy to replay. Add a thriving modding scene and you have a game that keeps reinventing itself: from texture overhauls to total gameplay rebalances, the original Oblivion is still being tinkered with two decades on. Buying it on Steam means your library entry is ready for all of that whenever the itch to return strikes.

How to activate the key

It couldn't be simpler. After payment you receive a code. Open the Steam client, click «+ Add a game» in the bottom-left corner and choose «Activate a Product on Steam» (also available from the «Games» menu). Enter the key, Steam verifies your account region — and the edition appears in your library. All add-ons are already tied to the game, nothing extra to purchase.

About the key's region

Keys for this edition are regional: separate versions for CIS, Asia, LATAM and MENA. Your Steam account region must match the key's region, otherwise Steam won't accept the activation. For Russia/CIS accounts you need the CIS option. If your account is registered elsewhere, pick the matching version or be prepared that a mismatched key may not activate directly. We deliberately keep several regional variants so you can grab the one that fits your account.

System requirements and platforms

Being a 2006 title, it runs on practically anything: a modern PC clears its requirements with miles to spare. Classic Oblivion also works on the Steam Deck — sometimes it's handy to tweak the control layout for a gamepad, but it plays comfortably. This is the full Windows PC version via Steam.
