Smalland: Survive the Wilds — co-op survival at bug scale
Imagine the world around you suddenly grew hundreds of times bigger. A blade of grass becomes a tree, a puddle becomes a lake, and an ordinary spider turns into a house-sized monster. That's exactly what Smalland: Survive the Wilds is about — a survival adventure from Merge Games where you've been shrunk to the size of an insect and left to survive in a vast wild forest. You gather resources from leaves and twigs, tame bugs instead of horses, and build shelter high up in the treetops, away from hungry predators.
When you buy from us, you get a global Steam key with the full version of the game. Activate it on your Steam account and Smalland stays in your library forever, just like any purchased game.
What the game is and why it grabs you
Smalland blends survival, exploration and light RPG. After a long early access run the game hit full release on 15 February 2024, and version 1.0 brought a complete map, biomes with changing seasons, a progression system and the Guardian storyline. The hook is scale: you literally see the familiar world through an ant's eyes, which turns even a trip for water into a real expedition.
- Creature taming. Grasshoppers, damselflies, spiders and other critters become your mounts and combat companions — ride them, fly on them, fight alongside them.
- Building. You can raise a base right on a tree branch: from simple leaf shelters to reinforced structures. Height is your defence against ground predators.
- Crafting and armour. Forge weapons and armour sets with special properties from gathered materials, tailored to different threats.
- Seasons and weather. The world runs on its own cycles: changing seasons shift the resources and dangers around you, and winter is something to prepare for in advance.
Solo or co-op for up to 10 players
Smalland works just as well alone or with a group. The game supports shared play for up to 10 people on one server: building a huge base together, splitting roles (one farms, one hunts, one defends), taming rare creatures and taking down bosses is far more fun as a team. Each player needs their own copy of the game — this key gives you one.
What's included in the purchase
You're buying the full base game of Smalland: Survive the Wilds in its 1.0 release edition — with all of the main game's content. It's a single item, no cut-down versions and no mandatory add-ons just to start playing. The separate soundtrack ships as its own DLC and is not part of this key — but you don't need it to enjoy the game.
Region and activation
The key is global: it activates on Steam in any country with no regional blocks and no VPN. The process is simple — in Steam click “+ Add a game” in the bottom-left corner, choose “Activate a Product on Steam”, enter the code you received, and the game drops into your library. Then you download and play as usual.
Threats, progression and the gameplay loop
Danger in Smalland comes from every direction, and that's half the fun. Mantises, wasps, centipedes and spiders all react to you differently: some are best avoided, others worth luring out and taking down for valuable materials. Over time you unlock new recipes, upgrade your gear and push into wilder, more hostile biomes you wouldn't have dared enter at the start. Night, rain and the change of season ratchet up the tension: a food stash, torches and solid armour stop being trivia and become a matter of survival. That loop of “scout, gather, upgrade, push further” is what keeps you in your seat.
System notes and Steam Deck
Smalland is a Windows PC game. On Steam Deck it runs through the Proton compatibility layer; the “verified/playable” status is updated by the developer from time to time, so before a long handheld session it's worth checking the current compatibility rating on the game's Steam page.
