What the game is about

The story unfolds a thousand years after human civilization collapsed. People have returned to a tribal way of life, hunting with bow and spear, while the valleys and mountains are roamed by machines — from harmless grazing "horses" to deadly Thunderjaws and house-sized Rockbreakers. The protagonist, Aloy, is an outcast of the Nora tribe searching for the truth about her own origins, slowly uncovering a deeper mystery: what really happened to the old world, and why machines now rule the planet. The narrative grips you not through bombast but through how carefully it unwinds its puzzle — every answer opens an even bigger question.

What the remaster changes

This is far more than a resolution bump. Guerrilla rebuilt the visuals using technology from the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West:

  • reworked lighting, materials and foliage — the world looks noticeably more alive than the original;
  • overhauled facial animation and over 10 hours of re-recorded dialogue with new motion capture — conversations no longer feel stiff;
  • support for ultra-wide resolutions on PC, plus NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1 with frame generation;
  • the PlayStation overlay with Trophy support, right inside the Steam version.

If you've played the original, this is a reason to return and see familiar places with fresh eyes. If you never did, it's the best way to discover the series.

The Frozen Wilds is already included

No need to buy the expansion separately. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered bundles The Frozen Wilds — a large story expansion set in the snowy lands north of the main map. It adds a new region, its own story arc, extra skills, weapons and especially dangerous machines. In effect you get the complete edition: the main campaign plus the expansion in one package.
