Frostpunk — the last city on the edge of an endless winter
Frostpunk is a society survival and city-building game from Polish studio 11 bit studios, released in 2018. The world has frozen: the sun is gone, temperatures have crashed, and a handful of survivors build humanity's last city around a giant heat-generating reactor. Here you don't just place houses and workshops — you decide who survives the next snowstorm.
What the game is about
At the center of the map burns the generator — the only source of heat. The city grows around it in rings: bunkhouses, mines, sawmills, hunters' huts, medical posts. The farther from the generator, the colder it gets, and every new building is a trade-off between warmth, resources and time. Coal, wood, steel and food are always scarce, while the frost keeps pressing in: a storm rolls in, then a new cold wave hits, and you must be ready in time.
Frostpunk isn't about pretty streets — it's about survival at the cost of your decisions. People grow tired, fall ill, lose hope. You balance the need to push everyone to work against the risk that the city simply scatters or rises up against you.
The Book of Laws and moral choices
The heart of the game is the Book of Laws. You sign decrees that reshape society itself: allow child labor or protect the children, enforce extended shifts or give people rest, lean on Faith or on Order. Every law carries consequences — rising Hope or Discontent, new buildings, new options and new ethical pitfalls. By the end of a scenario you'll ask yourself more than once whether anything human is left in your city — and whether it was worth it.
Scenarios
The main scenario, "A New Home," walks you through the birth, growth and trial of your city under deepening cold, culminating in a catastrophic storm. Beyond it the game features other story scenarios with their own conditions and moral dilemmas, so after your first run the world of Frostpunk opens up again from a different angle.
What's included in the gift
You get the full base version of Frostpunk for Steam — the whole game, with all the scenarios and modes of the base edition. This isn't a demo or a rental: once the gift is received, the game stays on your account forever. Additional DLC is not included in this gift — this is the base game specifically.
How to receive the gift
Delivery is done via a Steam gift using a bot. After payment, the bot adds you as a friend on Steam, sends Frostpunk as a gift and removes itself from your friends. You don't need to confirm anything manually: there's no gift request to accept, and no Steam Guard is required to receive it. Delivery usually takes a couple of minutes.
Two things to keep in mind. First, your account region must match the gift region — use an account in a suitable region. Second, Frostpunk must not be in your Steam library: Steam won't let you gift a game you already own.
Who it's for
Frostpunk is for those who love it when resource management turns into drama and every decision carries weight. If you enjoy survival city-builders and strategies about a fragile community under pressure, check out other games in the genre too: the harsh Against the Storm, the Norse Northgard, or the beaver city-builder Timberborn.
