Fallout 76 for Steam: activation key, editions and regions
Fallout 76 is Bethesda Game Studios' online role-playing game set in the Fallout universe, released on November 14, 2018 and later added to Steam. You play one of the dwellers of Vault 76 who steps out into Appalachia twenty-five years after the nuclear war — a post-apocalyptic West Virginia of rolling hills, swamps, abandoned towns and lurking Scorched. Unlike earlier entries it launched without ready-made human companions: the world is populated by other real players, robots and mutants, and you piece the story together from holotapes, terminals and events. What Appalachia is and why Fallout 76 hooks you
The Fallout 76 map is one of the largest in the series: snowy peaks, toxic bogs, the irradiated Crater and the Mire. You grow your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats and a deck of perk cards, build a movable C.A.M.P. almost anywhere, craft stimpaks, mod weapons and power armor, and hunt Deathclaws and legendary bosses like the Wendigo Colossus. The game has changed enormously over the years: it added living NPCs and full story lines (Wastelanders), factions, expeditions to other regions and seasonal updates. This is no longer the bare 2018 launch but a living world with regular content.
Fishing and the Gone Fission update
On June 3, 2025 the Gone Fission update brought fishing to Fallout 76. You can now cast a line in almost any body of water, mix and match baits and reel in more than thirty kinds of mutated Appalachian fish — from harmless minnows to glowing monsters. Fishing fits the game's relaxed survival rhythm perfectly: set up camp by a river, cast a line and take a break from the raids. The Gone Fission Deluxe Edition and the Atomic Angler Bundle were both released alongside this update.
Which editions and add-ons exist
There are two logical groups in the catalog. The first is editions: the base Fallout 76 and the Gone Fission Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe is the full game plus the Atomic Angler bundle baked in, so you don't need to buy the base separately. The second group is add-ons: the standalone Atomic Angler Bundle for players who already own the base.
- Fallout 76 (base game) — full access to Appalachia, all free updates and seasons. It's the foundation everything else builds on.
- Gone Fission Deluxe Edition — the base game + the Atomic Angler Bundle in a single key. A convenient pick if you're starting fresh and want the fishing cosmetics right away.
- Atomic Angler Bundle — a fishing cosmetic set: the Hydro Tech Exo power armor paint, the Charmcaster fishing rod, a floating buoy set, a live bait barrel, the Appalachian Contessa prefab and titles. It is not a standalone game — the bundle requires Fallout 76 already installed.
Key regions — an important detail
The base Fallout 76 is sold as region-locked Steam keys: CIS, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East (MENA). Steam will only activate such a key in its own region — if your account region doesn't match, activation fails. So before buying a base key, pick the variant that matches your Steam account region. The Gone Fission Deluxe Edition, by contrast, is a global edition and activates in any region. If you're unsure which region your account belongs to, you can see it in Steam's account settings next to your store country.
How to activate the key
It's the standard Steam flow: open the client, click «Add a Game» in the bottom-left corner → «Activate a Product on Steam», enter the code you received — and Fallout 76 appears in your library. From there you just download it and head out into Appalachia. The Steam version needs no separate Bethesda launcher: everything lives inside Steam.
Solo or with friends
Fallout 76 is online, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do without a squad. Most of the content — exploration, camp building, main and side quests, fishing — you can handle solo. And whenever you feel like it, you can join public events or pull friends into your group to storm nuked zones and farm legendaries together. The game accommodates both styles.
