Deep Rock Galactic: a co-op shooter about mining dwarves in space
Deep Rock Galactic is a co-op first-person shooter where four space dwarves, employed by a ruthless corporation, descend into the depths of planet Hoxxes IV. Developer Ghost Ship Games and publisher Coffee Stain Publishing nailed a rare blend: fully destructible procedurally generated caves, tight teamwork and a healthy dose of dark humor. No two missions are alike — every cave is built fresh, and the only way out is the one you dig yourself. Buying from us gets you a global Steam activation key: grab Standard for the pure game, or the Deluxe Edition with its cosmetic packs.
What makes it special
The core hook of Deep Rock Galactic is real destructibility, not the decorative kind. Tunnel in any direction: up, down, diagonally. Need to reach a gold vein on the cave ceiling? One dwarf builds platforms and paves the way while the others hold off swarming bugs. The cave map exists only in your head and in the flares you toss — getting lost is easy, so coordination with your squad is everything.
The team has four classes, each irreplaceable:
- Driller — twin handheld drills carve straight through rock, opening direct tunnels through any obstacle.
- Gunner — a heavy minigun, a shield generator, and a zipline the team uses to cross chasms.
- Engineer — defensive turrets and a platform gun that opens access to ore veins high on the walls.
- Scout — a grappling hook for vertical mobility and flares that are essential in the pitch-black dark.
Editions: Standard and Deluxe
There are two options in the catalog. Standard is the full game with no caveats: all four classes, every biome, endless procedural missions and seasonal content. The Deluxe Edition includes that same full game plus three cosmetic packs:
- Dark Future Pack — military-futuristic armor sets and two helmets: one covering the face fully, the other leaving room for a beard and moustache.
- MegaCorp Pack — full mesh reskins of every weapon in a corporate high-tech aesthetic, armor paintjobs to match your new guns, and a paintjob for your pickaxe.
- Dawn of the Dread Pack — four unique armor sets, two matching helmets, and a paintjob for your Bosco drone.
Worth knowing: the contents of all three packs are purely cosmetic. The skins grant no bonus to damage, armor or speed — it's about self-expression, not advantage. If you just want to play, Standard is fully self-sufficient; if you want to stand out in the squad from the start, go Deluxe.
Progression and post-launch content
Deep Rock Galactic left Early Access on May 13, 2020 and grew from a rough start into a live service with no aggressive monetization. You level up classes, unlock weapons and overclocks, mine resources for upgrades and beer at the Space Rig bar. Regular free seasons add new threats, events and cosmetics you earn by playing. No real-money lootboxes — everything is earned on missions.
Why it keeps players for hundreds of hours
The secret to Deep Rock Galactic's longevity is the rituals and culture its community built. The battle cry “Rock and Stone!” became a meme far beyond the game, and the missions themselves are short but dense expeditions: drop in, complete the objective (mine morkite, clear eggs, escort the drilldozer, hunt a boss), call the pod, and sprint toward extraction under a rising tide of bugs while the seconds tick down. Between missions the squad returns to the Space Rig, where you can dance, lob a beer barrel at a teammate, and grab a buff before the next descent. This loop — dangerous descent, team improvisation, well-earned beer — works just as well solo with your Bosco drone as it does with a full team of four dwarves.
