DayZ as a Steam gift: a hardcore survival sim that lands straight in your library
DayZ is an online survival game by the Czech studio Bohemia Interactive that reached its 1.0 release on December 13, 2018 after nearly five years in Early Access. There's no story, no quests and no map markers β just a huge open world, infected locals and up to 60 living players per server, each with one goal: last as long as possible. On this page you take DayZ specifically as a Steam gift: it doesn't come as a code you enter somewhere, it drops straight into your account's library via a bot on your Steam friends list. That's handy if you want a licence on your own profile with no key-activation fuss.
Why DayZ isn't your average shooter
DayZ never holds your hand. You spawn on the coast with no weapon, an empty stomach and a single shirt, and everything after that is your call: where to go, what to loot, who to trust. Hunger, thirst, blood loss, broken bones, illness and even body temperature all need managing, or your character dies before you find your first gun. Death wipes your progress: you lose everything you gathered and start over. That price of failure is what turns every run into a tense story.
The real threat is other players
The infected in DayZ are dangerous, but the real fear is other survivors. A chance meeting on a road can end with shared canned food and an evening together, or with a bullet in your back for your backpack. A whole culture grew from that: cautious voice negotiations, ambushes near military bases, one-night alliances and dawn betrayals. No script writes stories like these β real people on the server do, and that's why players sink hundreds and thousands of hours into DayZ.
Building, vehicles and base-making
The longer you live, the bolder your goals get. In DayZ you can repair and fuel cars, kit out for raids, set up camps and build fortifications to hide your loot from prying eyes. Crafting covers everything: from lighting a fire and cooking to improvised weapons and clothing. It's not a side mechanic but a way to put down roots in a world that constantly tries to kill you.
Three maps: Chernarus, Livonia and the frozen Sakhal
DayZ has several official maps, and the editions differ precisely in which ones you get:
- Chernarus β the series' home, a 230 kmΒ² post-Soviet country of concrete blocks, farms and densely stocked military bases; people have roamed it for years and still find new things.
- Livonia β a more forested, gloomy 163 kmΒ² map with a deep-provincial mood; once paid DLC, long since folded into the base game.
- Sakhal (Frostline) β a snowy volcanic archipelago of roughly 83 kmΒ², released October 15, 2024. Cold is its own enemy here: food freezes, you build fires more often, and frozen bodies of water change how fishing works.
Editions: base, Deluxe and Cool Edition
We deliver DayZ as a Steam gift in three complete editions β all three are finished Steam products, not add-ons to someone else's purchase:
- DayZ (base) β the game itself with the Chernarus and Livonia maps. A generous starting package already.
- DayZ Deluxe Edition β the base plus digital bonuses: the official soundtrack and high-resolution wallpapers. It doesn't affect gameplay β it's for collectors of the little extras.
- DayZ Cool Edition β the fullest edition: the base plus the paid Frostline expansion with the winter island of Sakhal, and the same digital bonuses. The "everything at once" pick, winter survival included.
Frostline with the Sakhal map is only in Cool Edition; if you want the winter map from the start, aim for that one.
Official and community servers
DayZ lives on servers, and their type shapes the experience. Official servers run vanilla rules and honest hardcore. Community servers set their own: private lobbies, boosted loot, roleplay projects, first-person-only hardcore modes. The game has long supported mods through the workshop, so the community bends it into anything β from light survival to a punishing simulator. The server type doesn't affect how the gift arrives: you get a full licence and choose where to play.
Why a gift and not a key
A Steam gift and a key are two ways to get the same game. A gift binds to your account through a bot on your friends list: no activation code to enter, no hunting for where to paste it β the game simply appears in your library once you accept the gift. Buying DayZ as a Steam gift suits anyone who wants a clean licence straight on their profile. The key difference is the delivery procedure, covered below.
How you receive the Steam gift
Delivery runs through our bot as a regular Steam Gift. You provide your account region and the friend-invite link to your profile β in the client that's Friends β Add a Friend β invite via invite link. After the order, the bot adds itself through that link, sends the gift and, once you accept it, leaves your friends list automatically. No manual request confirmation, no Steam Guard to accept the gift, and no site registration to buy. Payment works from Russia and the CIS, and order questions go to the site chat. We don't promise a specific delivery time: it's a live service through the bot.
Account region β the main condition
For Steam to let you accept the gift, your account region must match the lot's region (visible from the lot's currency), and the game or chosen edition must not already be in your library β Steam won't hand over a gift for a game you own, and the funds return to your balance. A region mismatch and an already-owned game are the two main reasons gifts fail, so check both before paying. Also make sure friend-adding is allowed in your profile privacy settings, or the bot can't reach you. The game needs no separate promo codes; any active lot discount is already in the price.
More on Brawl Games
If DayZ's grim Eastern-European military aesthetic appeals but you'd rather have tactics and command than lone survival, look at Men of War β a real-time military strategy with direct control over vehicles and infantry. And if you haven't decided what to invest in yet, grab a Steam wallet top-up and buy whatever you want yourself β modding add-ons for your favourite games or a completely different title. Both are available here, with payment from Russia and the CIS.
