What changed with the move to Unreal Engine 5

The upgrade only touches the Steam edition: players on the Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and consoles currently stay on the older "Legacy" build, and Funcom has only floated the idea of a console port without committing to a date. On Steam, lighting, environments, models and effects were reworked, performance climbed noticeably and the client got lighter, so installs and updates go faster. But the headline change isn't technical, it's geographic: you used to pick one of two maps at the start, the Exiled Lands or the Isle of Siptah — now they're one continuous world you can travel across without restarting your character. The UI was reworked too, multiple characters per account were added, and the mod toolkit got refreshed.

One exile against the Hyborian desert

Funcom released the base game back in 2018, and the setup hasn't changed since: sentenced to die on a cross in the middle of the desert, you're cut down by Conan the Barbarian himself, and from there you survive on your own — no quest markers, no half-screen tutorials. Hunger, thirst, temperature and predators decide whether you make it to nightfall, and the ruins of long-dead civilizations around you are proof that plenty of others tried to tame this desert before you and failed.

Building, combat and thralls — the three pillars

The building system in Conan Exiles Enhanced doesn't cap the shape of your base: anything from a stick hut to a multi-story fortress with towers and drawbridges. Combat is about weapon type and positioning rather than button-mashing — dodges, mounted fighting and blood sorcery are all in play. The series' signature feature is thralls: knock an NPC out, drag them to the wheel of pain, and turn them into a fighter, crafter or priest who then works for your base on their own.

Gods, sorcery and any mode you want

Build up devotion to one of Hyboria's gods and you can summon its giant avatar onto the server, flattening a rival's fortress in a single pass — a rare case of religion being an actual gameplay tool rather than just lore. There's a whole dark sorcery branch too: curses, demonic servants and rituals that turn a quiet builder into a real threat to neighboring clans. And the format bends to you: solo offline play, co-op with friends, PvP on crowded public servers, or your own server with fully customizable rules, from leveling speed to raid windows.
