Age of Mythology: Retold is a ground-up remaster of the cult 2002 real-time strategy, built by World's Edge and Forgotten Empires under Xbox Game Studios. It launched on September 4, 2024 (Premium owners got in a week early, on August 28). Here you don't just gather resources and raise an army — you pick your major god, summon titans, rain down plagues like swarms of locusts or earthquakes, and march mythical creatures from Greek, Egyptian, Norse and Atlantean legend into battle. With us you get the game as a Steam Gift: you pay, our bot sends the gift straight to your Steam, you accept it — and the game is yours for good.

What the game is and why it's worth playing

Retold keeps the exact soul fans waited two decades for, while modernizing everything that aged: 4K visuals, reworked physics, fresh balance, updated animations and fully re-recorded campaigns. The genre is classic real-time strategy with a mythological twist: instead of plain nations you command pantheons, each with major gods, minor deities per age, unique myth units and divine powers. The "Fall of the Trident" campaign takes you across Greek, Egyptian and Norse lands, while skirmish, multiplayer and custom modes pile on hundreds of hours more.

How the editions differ: Standard vs Premium

There are two full editions here plus a separate upgrade. Let's break it down honestly so you don't overpay:

• Standard Edition — the entire base game: four starting pantheons (Greeks, Egyptians, Norse, Atlanteans), the campaign, multiplayer and the scenario editor. If you're stepping into Retold for the first time and just want to play, this edition is all you need.
• Premium Edition — the base game plus the full premium bundle: the God Pack with Freyr (a fourth major god for the Norse), the Legacy Deity Portrait Pack with the option to enable upscaled classic deity art, and most importantly both major expansions with new pantheons: "Immortal Pillars" (Chinese pantheon, released March 4, 2025) and "Heavenly Spear" (Japanese pantheon, released September 30, 2025), plus the exclusive Tsukuyomi god portrait.

In short: pick Standard and you get a great game; pick Premium and you get the same game plus two extra pantheons with new gods, units, powers and campaigns, without buying them separately later. If you played the original and know you'll want the new factions, Premium is the better value.

What the Premium Upgrade is and who needs it

The Premium Upgrade is not a standalone game. It's an upgrade for players who already own the Standard Edition: it tops your account up to Premium content (Freyr God Pack, portraits, the Immortal Pillars and Heavenly Spear expansions, the Tsukuyomi portrait), but it does NOT contain the base game. Only grab it if Standard Retold is already installed on your account and you've decided to add the premium content. If you don't own the game at all yet, you need Standard or Premium — not the upgrade.

What's inside the Immortal Pillars and Heavenly Spear expansions

Both expansions bundled into Premium (and added by the upgrade) are already fully released and playable:

• Immortal Pillars (March 4, 2025) — a Chinese pantheon with new major gods, myth units drawn from Chinese legend and its own campaign.
• Heavenly Spear (September 30, 2025) — a Japanese pantheon with 12 gods, new units like ninjas and yokai, and the "Yasuko's Tale" campaign about a farmer's daughter who finds a heavenly spear.

How Steam Gift delivery works

We deliver Retold as a Steam Gift, not a key, through the supplier's bot. You provide your Steam profile friend-invite link and your account region. The bot then adds itself as your friend, sends the gift and leaves once it's delivered — you don't accept any friend request manually. Steam Guard is not required, and no prior activations or other games on the account are needed either. The gift usually arrives within a couple of minutes after checkout, though that's not a hard guarantee — occasionally it takes a little longer.

Two conditions the gift can't go through without

Steam works in a way that blocks a gift unless two rules are met. First, your Steam account region must match the gift's region — pick the variant for your region. Second, for Standard and Premium the game must not already be in your library: Steam won't let you accept a gift for something you already own. The exception is the Premium Upgrade — for it, the base Standard edition must already be on the account, while the premium content must not be yet.

What it runs on

Retold runs on Windows via Steam, supports a controller and feels great on Steam Deck too — the strategy was deliberately adapted for gamepad play. Once you accept the gift, the game is locked to your account forever, like any game bought on Steam.
