What Wartales is and why it pulls you in
You don't save the world — you keep a company running. Troops must be fed, healed, trained and paid on time, or morale drops. Combat is all about positioning: flanks, zones of control, class abilities and gear you've crafted at your travelling anvil. The world is open from the start: take bounty contracts on bandits, mine ore and trade, or dive into tombs and dungeons for ancient secrets. Progress isn't measured by a hero's level but by how strong and wealthy your company has become.
Genre and feel
This is a tactical RPG with strategy, survival and management elements. It's low fantasy — no dragons on every corner: muddy roads, mercenary camps, plagued villages and moral forks where the "right" answer often doesn't exist. Thanks to its openness and lack of a railroaded plot, every playthrough shapes itself — your roster, specializations and relations with regions are yours to decide.
What this product includes
You get the base Wartales game. The major expansions — Pirates of Belerion (released December 14, 2023) and Skelmar Invasion (released December 10, 2024) — are not included and are bought separately on Steam: they add map, enemies and contracts, but the base campaign is complete without them. If you're new to the game, the base version will last you a long time.
How we deliver the gift
Wartales here is a Steam Gift. The mechanic is simple: you leave your Steam friend invite link and state your account region. Our bot adds itself as your friend, sends the gift, and automatically leaves your friends list after delivery — you don't need to accept anything by hand. Steam Guard is not required, and neither is any activity or other games on the account. Delivery usually takes a couple of minutes from checkout.
Region is the key condition
For Steam to accept the gift, your account region must match the gift region, and friend requests must be allowed in your privacy settings. Another Steam rule: Wartales must not already be in the recipient's library — a gift won't be accepted for a game you already own. Camp, survival and managing your company
Between battles, Wartales turns into a game about logistics and looking after people. At camp you cook food, heal wounds, repair gear and assign roles: a blacksmith forges weapons, a cook saves rations, a musician lifts morale. Every mercenary has a class, a skill set and a personality — plus wages you have to pay regularly. Let upkeep slip and discontent creeps in, followed by sickness and desertion. That's why money in Wartales isn't an abstraction but the fuel keeping your whole company alive, and you can earn it in a dozen honest and not-so-honest ways.
Combat, classes and progression
Fights are turn-based on a grid, and victory goes not to the bigger numbers but to whoever positions their troops well. Zones of control punish running across the field, class abilities chain into combos, and crafted gear and combat oils decide drawn-out clashes. Progression is built on specializations: the same class can be steered toward a tank, damage or support role. Captured enemies can be interrogated, recruited or hauled off in a cage to be sold — the world reacts to how you run your business.
Where to play: PC, Steam Deck, co-op
This is the PC version for Steam. On Steam Deck, Wartales runs via Proton and feels comfortable for turn-based tactics. The game supports co-op — you can run a campaign with friends, each needing their own copy. There's no separate native Linux build, but Steam Play covers most scenarios.
