Urban Myth Dissolution Center: a pixel detective about urban legends
Urban Myth Dissolution Center is an intimate paranormal detective adventure that released on February 12, 2025 and sold over 300,000 copies within its first weeks. It was made by the small studio Hakababunko and published by Shueisha Games, the gaming arm of the Japanese publishing giant. There's no open world or action here โ everything rests on atmosphere, writing and investigation. If you love eerie mysteries, visual novels and slow-burn detective stories where you think rather than shoot, this one is for you. Buying from us, you get the full version as a Steam gift straight to your account.
What the game is about
The protagonist is Azami Fukurai. All her life she believed she could see ghosts and treated it as a curse. But at the Urban Myth Dissolution Center she learns the truth: her real ability is clairvoyance โ she can read the traces of past events left on objects and places. From then on Azami works alongside the Center, taking on cases the regular police can't explain: cursed objects, strange creatures, anomalies, and urban myths no one believes until it's too late.
The story unfolds episodically, like a series: each case is its own self-contained mystery with its own mood and payoff, yet they all build toward a bigger picture. Out of scattered rumours and whispered tales something larger slowly takes shape, and the investigation becomes deeply personal for Azami herself.
What makes the gameplay tick
Urban Myth Dissolution Center sits between a visual novel and a detective puzzle. You read dialogue, examine locations, gather clues and connect the dots, using the heroine's clairvoyance to glimpse the past. A standout feature is its social-media simulation mode: part of the leads and atmosphere come through feeds, rumours and message threads โ a perfect fit for modern urban legends, which are born online in the first place.
- Episodic structure โ easy to play in short sessions, each case stands on its own.
- Investigation through clairvoyance: reconstruct the past from traces left on objects.
- Japanese occult-horror atmosphere without cheap jump scares โ it unsettles with mood, not surprises.
- Strong writing and well-drawn characters โ the game lives on its stories.
Visual style
The art deserves a special mention. Hakababunko's artists built the game in a deliberately low pixel resolution โ a chunky-pixel look even lower than 1980s consoles. It sounds odd, but that's exactly what gives it a unique, almost uneasy retro feel: blurred silhouettes, things left unsaid, the sense of old film grain and city mysticism. Animated cutscenes and effects layered over the pixel art heighten the key moments of discovery.
Platform and language
This is the Steam version (PC, Windows). The game is officially translated into Russian โ interface and all text โ which matters a lot for a text-driven detective. Besides Russian it offers English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, German, Spanish and more. It includes Steam achievements and Steam Cloud save support.
How you'll receive the game
We deliver Urban Myth Dissolution Center as a Steam gift. You'll need to provide your Steam friend-invite link and your account region. Our bot then adds itself to your friends, sends the gift (usually within a couple of minutes) and leaves your friends list after delivery โ no need to accept the request manually, and Steam Guard isn't required. All you do is click โAccept giftโ, and the full game stays in your library for good.
Important about the region
Steam gifts come with one hard rule: your account region must match the gift region, or Steam won't let you accept it. So choose the option for your region and double-check your account country in settings before paying. The second condition is that the game must not already be in the receiving account's library โ a gift can't be accepted on an account that already owns Urban Myth Dissolution Center. Meet both and delivery goes smoothly.

Is it worth it
Urban Myth Dissolution Center is a small but complete and stylish game for anyone craving a smart occult detective with mood. It's not a hundred-hour blockbuster but a dense story you'll enjoy playing and remember. A full Russian translation, an honest Steam gift delivery to your own account, and a one-of-a-kind look make it a great pick when you want something off the beaten path.
