theHunter: Call of the Wild — hunting you can believe in
theHunter: Call of the Wild is a hunting simulator from Expansive Worlds (part of Avalanche Studios), released on Steam on 16 February 2017. There's no arcade target practice here: you get vast open reserves, a living ecosystem and animals that behave like the real thing. They graze, rest, spook at gunshots, move with the wind and leave tracks you can follow. It's a slow, thoughtful and strikingly beautiful game about patience and observation.
Buying from us, you get the full base game on Steam as a gift (Steam Gift). We send the gift straight to your account — below we cover what's included, how delivery works and what to watch for when choosing your region.
What the game is and why it grips you
The core of theHunter: Call of the Wild is honesty. Animals don't spawn out of thin air for your convenience: to take a deer, boar or moose you have to read the terrain. You follow tracks, spot blood drops from a wounded animal, listen for a buck's call during the rut, and check the wind so your prey doesn't catch your scent. You match the calibre to the animal — too weak a round wounds without killing, too powerful a one ruins the trophy. Every successful hunt feels earned rather than ticked off a list.
Visually the game still looks gorgeous: dawn mist over a lake, an autumn forest, snowy slopes, endless prairies. The atmosphere of silence and presence in the wild is exactly why players come back to it years later.
Reserves in the base version
The base game includes two large open reserves:
- Layton Lake District — the coniferous forests and lakes of the north-western US: whitetail and blacktail deer, black bear, moose, coyote, rabbit and more.
- Hirschfelden Hunting Reserve — the pastoral fields and woods of Central Europe: red deer, wild boar, roe deer, fallow deer, pheasant and hare.
Each map spans tens of square kilometres you can cross on foot and by vehicle, unlocking lookout towers, placing tent fast-travel points and gradually learning the land.
Progression, gear and co-op
Successful hunts earn you XP and money, unlocking new weapons, optics, callers, blinds and markers. A skills and perks system lets you build your hunter around your style — some bet on long-range rifle shots, others prefer a stealthy bow approach. The game supports online co-op for up to 8 players: you can track game in the same reserve together with friends.
DLC and extra reserves
theHunter: Call of the Wild is actively supported with add-ons: new reserve maps (from alpine mountains to African savanna and the Australian outback), weapon packs, gear and vehicle sets. Important: this gift includes only the base game with its two starter reserves. Any DLC are separate purchases and require the base game installed. Starting with the base is the right path: get comfortable, then decide which reserves to add later.
How the gift is delivered
This is a Steam Gift, not a key. The mechanic is simple and safe for you:
- You provide a Steam friend invite link and your account region.
- Our bot adds itself to your friends — you don't need to accept anything manually.
- The bot sends the gift, usually within a couple of minutes of ordering.
- You accept the gift in Steam and the game lands in your library. After delivery the bot automatically leaves your friends list.
Steam Guard is not required, and game ownership or activity on the account doesn't matter. Two conditions that really do matter: your Steam account region must match the gift region, and you must not already own theHunter: Call of the Wild — Steam won't let you accept a gift for a game you already have.
Gift region
The gift is available for a wide set of regions — choose the variant that matches your Steam account country. If you pick the wrong region, Steam simply won't accept the gift, so enter your account region carefully. If unsure, check the country in your Steam account settings (the account details section).
If the wilderness is your thing
If you enjoy calm single-player open-world adventures, check out wilderness survival: Green Hell with its realistic jungle mechanics and The Forest about surviving deep in the woods. For atmospheric harsh realism, The Long Dark fits perfectly. All of them are also in our catalogue.
In short about the purchase
You get the full base theHunter: Call of the Wild on Steam — yours forever in your library. No subscriptions or rentals: buy the gift, accept it in Steam, play as long as you like. Just enter the correct region and invite link, and the bot handles the rest.
