The Sims 2 Legacy Collection: the life-sim legend returns to Steam
The Sims 2 is one of those games people keep coming back to years later. It's a life simulator where you don't just build a house — you guide a whole family across generations: birth, growing up, school, work, love, old age and inheritance. In 2025 EA officially brought the second game back to sale as the Legacy Collection — the most complete bundle ever released for The Sims 2: the base game together with every expansion and stuff pack in a single purchase. Here you get it as a Steam gift delivered straight to your account.
What The Sims 2 actually is
Unlike the first game, Sims here truly live through time. They have an age — from baby to elder — they have aspirations and fears, and they remember what happened to them. A Sim left at the altar will remember it; a child raised in a loving home grows up differently from a neglected one. This is the game that introduced the famous Wants & Fears system, genetics (children inherit facial features and traits from their parents), and the generational storytelling that inspired fans to invent the “legacy challenge”: take a single bloodline through ten generations without cheating.
What's inside the Legacy Collection
The main reason to grab this bundle is that it gathers almost everything ever made for The Sims 2 into one package:
- The base game The Sims 2;
- 8 expansion packs: University, Nightlife (dating and the city), Open for Business, Pets, Bon Voyage (travel), Seasons (weather and gardening), FreeTime (hobbies) and Apartment Life (apartment living and reputation);
- 9 stuff packs: Holiday Party Pack, Family Fun Stuff, Glamour Life Stuff, Happy Holiday Stuff, Celebration! Stuff, H&M Fashion Stuff, Teen Style Stuff, Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff and Mansion & Garden Stuff.
Each expansion is far more than a furniture drop — it's a whole layer of gameplay. Seasons adds weather, harvests and the changing year; Pets brings cats, dogs and a full care system; Open for Business lets you run your own shop or salon; Bon Voyage sends your Sims off to beach resorts and mountains. Together they turn the sandbox into something genuinely bottomless.
What's not in the bundle
Only one pack from the whole The Sims 2 catalogue is officially missing — IKEA Home Stuff — left out of the Legacy Collection for licensing reasons (the IKEA brand). That's the single exception; everything else is here. So if someone is looking for “the complete The Sims 2”, this is it.
How this version differs from the old discs
The Legacy Collection is a re-release of the original, not a remake. The gameplay, the visuals and that unmistakable 2004 feel are all preserved. What matters is convenience: no more installing eight expansion discs in order and hunting for patches — it all installs as a single Steam game, already updated to run on modern Windows. That's the whole point of the re-release: the legend is finally easy to launch.
How you receive the game: a Steam gift
We deliver The Sims 2 Legacy Collection as a Steam Gift. We need two things from you: your Steam friend invite link (grab it from your profile via “Add Friend”) and your Steam account region. Our bot then adds itself to your friends, sends the gift, and leaves your friends list once it's delivered — no manual accepting of the request. Delivery usually takes a couple of minutes from checkout.
Two conditions, without which Steam won't accept the gift: your account region must match the gift region, and the game must not already be in that account's library (Steam won't hand over a gift for a game you already own). Steam Guard is not required — the gift arrives without it.
Will my computer run it
The Sims 2 is a 2004 game, and even with every expansion it's extremely light by today's standards: it runs on practically any modern Windows laptop or PC. The re-release is adapted for current Windows versions, so you won't fight the compatibility headaches the old discs used to cause.
What else to check out
If you're building a collection of classic life sims, take a look at The Sims Legacy Collection — the re-release of the very first game where it all began, also with every expansion. And if you want a modern sandbox with the same DNA, there's The Sims 4 and the cozier, open-neighbourhood The Sims 3.
The Sims 2 Legacy Collection is your chance to relive (or discover for the first time) what many fans call the best entry in the series — in its most complete form. Place your order and lead your dynasty through the generations.
