FAQ

The Planet Crafter โ€” bring a dead planet to life and claim the game on your Steam

The Planet Crafter is a survival sandbox about terraforming from the French studio Miju Games. You play a convict astronaut dropped onto a lifeless planet with one deal: make it habitable, and you earn your freedom. At first there's nothing but rock, toxic air and emptiness. By the end there's blue sky, oceans, rain, grass and wildlife. That journey from a dead rock to a living world is the whole point โ€” and it's what keeps you hooked for dozens of hours.

We send you the full 1.0 release straight to Steam as a gift: a bot adds itself as a friend, delivers the gift and leaves. Accept it and the game stays in your library forever.

What terraforming means in The Planet Crafter

The whole game revolves around one number โ€” the Terraformation Index (TI). You build machines that reshape the planet: heaters raise temperature, drills create pressure, oxygen units and "vegetubes" fill the air with oxygen. The index is the sum of heat, pressure, oxygen and biomass, and as TI climbs the planet passes through visible stages:

  • ๐Ÿ”ฅ heat comes first โ€” ice melts and new zones open up;
  • ๐Ÿ’จ pressure rises โ€” you can shed part of your gear;
  • ๐ŸŒฌ oxygen builds โ€” the first puddles and lakes appear;
  • ๐ŸŒŠ oceans spread, rain falls, grass and trees take root;
  • ๐Ÿฆ‹ insects, fish and animals arrive โ€” the world comes alive.

Each stage isn't just a figure in a menu but a real change around you: where a dust storm raged yesterday, water flows today. That's the magic of the game.

Survival, exploration and lore

The Planet Crafter isn't only an atmosphere calculator. You watch your oxygen, water and food, gather resources, craft gear and bases, and dig through caves for rare shards. Crashed ships, bunkers and terminals are scattered across the planet, and their logs piece together a story of who came before you and what went wrong. The narrative is optional, but it adds depth to the calm, meditative gameplay.

Co-op for up to 10 players

Since the 1.0 release the game features co-op for up to ten people. You can split roles: someone builds farms and oxygen stations, someone heads off to explore caves and collect blueprints. Terraforming a planet with two or five players is a completely different rhythm and a flood of shared discoveries. Each player needs their own copy โ€” this gift covers exactly one participant.

Free updates: the game keeps growing after launch

Miju Games didn't abandon the project after 1.0. Major free updates followed โ€” Planet Humble (a new planet scenario), The Moons (satellites and new mechanics), Toxicity and the big 2.0 update. All of it is already part of the game and arrives automatically โ€” no DLC to buy. Getting the base game means getting all this accumulated content too.

How we deliver the gift

Delivery goes through Steam Gift and a bot. You provide your friend invite link and your account region. The bot adds itself, sends The Planet Crafter as a gift and removes itself after delivery โ€” no friend request to accept, and Steam Guard is not required. The whole thing usually takes a couple of minutes from checkout.

Two conditions matter, or Steam won't let you accept the gift: your account region must be among the gift's 47 regions and the game must not already be in your library. If the account already owns The Planet Crafter, Steam will refuse the gift โ€” in that case use a clean account or a different region.

Steam Deck, cross-play and ownership

The Planet Crafter runs comfortably on mid-range PCs โ€” it's an atmospheric sandbox rather than a graphics monster, so it feels right on laptops and on the Steam Deck for relaxed play on the go. Since we gift you an actual Steam copy, it's tied to your account for good: cloud saves, updates and co-op all work like any game you'd buy on Steam, with no separate launchers or subscriptions.

Who The Planet Crafter is for

If you enjoy calm survival with visible progress, this is your game. Love Subnautica for exploring an alien world, Raft for building something out of nothing, or Satisfactory for laying out production chains โ€” you'll find the same satisfaction here, only aimed at reviving an entire planet. No harsh timers or punishment โ€” you play at your own pace and watch a dead world come to life in your hands.
