The Medium β Psychological Horror on the Edge of Two Worlds
The Medium by Polish studio Bloober Team is a slow, oppressive psychological horror that builds dread through atmosphere, unspoken trauma and human tragedy rather than cheap jump scares. You play as Marianne, a medium who has seen the hidden world since childhood: echoes of other people's pain, souls trapped between life and death. A mysterious phone call draws her to the abandoned Niwa resort, where something monstrous once happened. Here you buy a Steam Gift with the full Standard edition of the game β a partner bot sends it straight to your Steam.
The Hook β Two Realities on One Screen
What sets The Medium apart from dozens of other horror games is its dual-reality mechanic. At key moments the screen splits in two: on the left Marianne walks through the ruined but still physical world, on the right through its twisted spirit reflection β a landscape of flesh, bone and pain inspired by the art of ZdzisΕaw BeksiΕski. This is no cutscene and no level transition: you control Marianne in both worlds at the same time. A door locked in reality may be open in the spirit realm; a switch burned out on one side works on the other. Puzzles are built on this constant shift of attention between the two halves of the frame.
A Soundtrack That Chills
The music is composed by Akira Yamaoka β the legendary composer of the Silent Hill series β together with Arkadiusz Reikowski. Their score does half the work of building tension: uneasy industrial noise, distorted voices, lingering melodies that haunt you even in silence. If you love horror for its atmosphere rather than for flinching in your chair, the sound of The Medium alone is reason to see it through.
What's in the Standard Edition
You get the full game of The Medium with no cut content β a complete story experience of about 8β10 hours. There are no extra modes and no microtransactions: it's a single, authored single-player horror from start to finish. A Deluxe edition (The Medium - Deluxe Edition) with a digital artbook and soundtrack also exists, but the game itself is identical in the Standard version β only the collector's bonus materials differ.

Gameplay: Silence, Exploration and One Creature to Fear
The Medium is a slow, almost meditative game. There are no weapons and no traditional combat: most of your time goes into exploring the Niwa resort, finding items and piecing together the stories of its former inhabitants. The camera is fixed, in the spirit of classic survival horror like early Resident Evil and Silent Hill β letting Bloober Team frame every shot precisely and control exactly what you see around the corner. Danger does appear: the spirit world is home to a creature called The Maw, which you must hide from and slip past while holding your breath. These sequences ratchet up the tension without turning the game into an action title.
The Story of the Niwa Resort
Behind the beautiful, eerie visuals hides a genuinely heavy story about violence, guilt and the secrets people carry beyond the grave. The further you go, the more you understand why Marianne ended up here and what tragedy ties her to this place. The Medium isn't afraid of mature, uncomfortable themes and tells them with respect for the player β no preaching, just details, notes and fragments of other people's memories that you assemble into a single picture.
How You Receive the Steam Gift
It's simple and there's no fiddling with codes. After payment a partner bot from the FZR service adds you as a friend on Steam, sends The Medium as a gift and then removes itself β you don't have to accept any requests manually, and Steam Guard isn't required for this. A couple of things to keep in mind: your Steam account region must match the gift's region, and the game must not already be in your library β a duplicate gift can't be accepted. Delivery usually takes a couple of minutes. Once you accept the gift, The Medium stays on your account for good. The game officially supports Windows and macOS, and runs on Steam Deck via Proton.
Who The Medium Is For
This is a game for those who value horror stories with strong drama and mature themes over a ride of scares. If you enjoyed Bloober Team's earlier, meditative horrors, take a look at Layers of Fear β their psychedelic horror about an artist losing his mind β and Observer β a cyberpunk detective story where you literally dive into other people's memories. And fans of the Silent Hill mood should check out Silent Hill 2 β the very series scored by the composer of The Medium.
Quick Answers
This is the full game, not an add-on β nothing else to buy. No prior Bloober Team games are required: The Medium's story stands on its own. The gift arrives from the bot automatically β you don't accept requests or enter any codes by hand. Before buying, make sure this game isn't already in your library and that your account region matches the gift's region. Once you accept the gift, the game stays in your Steam library forever.
