⚔️ The combat system

Battles are the heart of Tales of ARISE. The series uses its signature Linear Motion Battle System: combat plays out in real time, you directly control your hero, chain regular attacks with special moves (artes), dodge, counter and juggle enemies with flashy combos. Your party holds up to six characters you can switch between, each with a distinct style: a melee bruiser, a mage, a support. There are powerful paired finisher attacks (Boost Strikes) and partner abilities that break enemy defences. The combat is both spectacular and deep — easy to jump into, with plenty of room to grow.

🎨 The world, the style and what to do

Visually ARISE uses its signature "Atmospheric Shader" technique that makes the picture look like a living watercolour anime illustration — the game looks stylish and doesn't age. Beyond the main story you'll explore the varied regions of two worlds, tackle dozens of side quests, cook dishes for bonuses, fish, upgrade skills, customise characters and enjoy the series-famous skits — short character conversations that flesh out personalities and add humour. A full playthrough easily runs several dozen hours.

📀 Editions: Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate

Let's clear it up. The story base is the same in every edition — only the cosmetics differ.

• Standard Edition — the full main game. The ideal pick if you just want the story and gameplay with no extra cosmetics.
• Deluxe Edition — the game plus cosmetic packs: the Premium Travel Pack and Adventurer's Pack (bonus items and conveniences for the journey).
• Ultimate Edition — everything in Deluxe plus costume sets: collaboration outfits, swimsuits, school uniforms and kimonos for the characters. For those who love dressing up their heroes.

Simple rule of thumb: just want the game → Standard; want bonus cosmetics and conveniences → Deluxe; want maximum costumes → Ultimate. None of the cosmetics affect the story or difficulty — it's visuals and minor bonuses.

🌅 The Beyond the Dawn expansion

Standing apart is the major story expansion Beyond the Dawn (released in November 2023). It's a full new chapter that continues the heroes' story after the main game's finale, with new events and characters. It's not included in the base editions and is sold separately (base game required). If you only want the main campaign, start with the base version and add the expansion later if you like. There's also a separate bundle edition that packages the game and Beyond the Dawn together.

🇷🇺 Russian language

For anyone who cares about Russian: the game has a Russian interface and subtitles — the story, dialogue, skits and menus read in Russian, so following the plot is comfortable. The voice-over, however, is Japanese and English only: there's no Russian dub, so you listen in the original Japanese or in English and read the text in Russian. For a JRPG that's a classic, familiar format — many genre fans actually prefer the Japanese voice track with subtitles.
