Diamonds and Biocaps: two premium currencies, not one
The first thing to understand about the State of Survival economy is that the game runs on two premium currencies, not one. Diamonds are bought with real money via the FunPlus Top-Up Centre (ss-pay.funplus.com), the platform store or a Player ID service. Biocaps are the in-game soft-premium currency that drives roughly 90% of day-to-day decisions: building and research speed-ups, Hero Search pulls in the Hero Hall, VIP-Store purchases, resource bundles and settlement buffs. There is no direct in-game conversion from Diamonds to Biocaps. Diamonds are spent on packaged Diamond Shop bundles where Biocaps come together with resources, speed-ups and hero shards. The Brawl Games catalogue therefore lists Diamond denominations only — the same ladder as the FunPlus Top-Up Centre — and Biocaps are picked up inside the client afterwards.
Top-Up Event: why Diamond spend feeds the premium loop
The Top-Up Event is the SoS-specific mechanic that explains why so many players time large purchases. During an event window (typically about 60 days) every Diamond you spend counts toward a cumulative ladder, and the milestones return chunky Biocap rewards — the headline tiers are around 2,500, 7,500 and 40,000 Biocaps for total spend. That is how the dual-currency design closes the loop: paid Diamonds quietly refill the Biocap engine that runs Hero Search and speed-ups. The top denomination in the catalogue, 20,000 Diamonds (the equivalent of the $99.99 Top-Up Centre pack), is usually the one that pushes accounts past the highest Top-Up Event tier and into State vs State preparation.
Growth Fund is an investment pack, not a subscription
Growth Fund is often confused with a monthly subscription, but it works differently. It is a one-off purchase that pays out gradually as you upgrade the Headquarters (HQ): each HQ tier unlocks its share of Diamonds and Biocaps, and the typical Growth Fund returns roughly four to five times its purchase value once HQ progress catches up. That is the classic "first big buy" on a fresh chief account. The seasonal Survival Pass is a separate product — about thirty days long, with a free track and a premium track that adds hero shards, Biocaps, speed-ups and exclusive frame and chat-bubble cosmetics. Don't conflate Growth Fund with Survival Pass or with the rotating Subscription Pass, Fortress Pass and Settlement Plan: each one is its own product.
VIP levels and the VIP Store
The VIP system in SoS is the classic loyalty mechanic of 4X games rather than a recurring subscription. There are twelve Chief VIP levels, fed by VIP Points that arrive daily as timed activations — 30-minute, 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day cards — or as a side reward for big Diamond purchases. VIP 5 opens the Growth Kit with Biocaps, while VIP 8 and above unlocks Super VIP territory, where the spend curve gets steep. The VIP Store sits next to all of that: a discounted shop priced in Biocaps whose stock expands with each VIP tier. A common reason to buy Diamonds is to push the VIP timer up before a State vs State window or a key build milestone.
Hero Hall and Hero Search: shard collector, not a gacha banner
State of Survival is not a gacha game in the Genshin or Honkai: Star Rail sense. Heroes are obtained through Hero Search in the Hero Hall using Hero Search Tokens, and the rest of the progression is shard accumulation. A full SS hero card — Sarge, Becca, Tina, Maddie & Frank, Rusty, Ghost, Daryl Dixon from the Walking Dead collab, The Joker from the DC partnership, Chris Redfield and Lady Dimitrescu from the Resident Evil Village phase, Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong from the RE4 phase, T-800 and Sarah Connor from Terminator 2 — needs anywhere from one to several thousand shards to unlock and level. Those shards drop from Hero Search, the Hero Precinct, the premium track of Survival Pass and Diamond Shop bundles. Banner, pity and 50/50 vocabulary doesn't fit here — it is shard accumulation, not a pity banner.
States, State Merge and State vs State
In State of Survival a State is a server. By May 2026 there are more than 1,700 of them, and new chiefs land in the most recent state at sign-up. Your Player ID (Chief ID) is the global account identifier — usually nine or ten digits — and it stays the same across iOS, Android, the FunPlus PC Player and the Steam client. State Migration changes which state you live on but keeps the Chief ID untouched. Sometimes the developers run a State Merge, a forced consolidation of older states to keep PvP density healthy: wilderness buildings reset to unclaimed status and Capital Clash runs from scratch. The headline cross-server event is State vs State (SvS), built around three phases — Preparation, Warfare and Revival. Warfare lasts fifteen hours from 08:45 UTC, and the 10:45 to 18:45 UTC window inside it is Capital Clash, which decides who holds the Governor seat. Diamond demand spikes ahead of SvS as chiefs convert paid currency into Biocaps and speed-ups for their march composition.
Servers, Player ID and how the top-up reaches the account
Top-ups through Brawl Games run on the Player ID: it sits on the chief profile inside the game and is nine or ten digits long. No login is needed — orders are routed through a reliable supplier, FunPlus's official Player ID partner, and the Diamonds reach your account from there. One quirk specific to mobile strategy games is delivery: Diamonds arrive in the in-game Mailbox rather than landing straight on the balance, and the message has a limited time-to-live, so claim it the next time you log in. Direct top-ups through Google Play and App Store have been restricted for players in regions where the official store has limited card support since 2022, which is why Player ID delivery has become the standard route. The first-purchase x2 bonus applies once per denomination — 100, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 Diamonds each grant double the first time — and resets around anniversary events or for a brand-new state.
