What kind of game it is
Sonic Adventure 2 was built by Sonic Team under SEGA. It's a fast 3D action platformer: you blast through stages, collect rings, chase Chaos Emeralds and play across three distinct styles — speed runs as Sonic and Shadow, treasure hunting as Knuckles and Rouge, and mech shooting as Tails and Eggman. Each character plays differently, so the game never feels repetitive.
Two campaigns: Hero and Dark
The core hook of SA2 is its parallel storylines. In the Hero campaign you save the world as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. In the Dark campaign you try to conquer it as Shadow, Doctor Eggman and Rouge. The two stories run toward each other and meet in the finale, so it's best to play both for the full picture of the conflict. This is also where Shadow debuted — a character who became one of the most recognizable in the entire series.
Chao Garden — a world within the game
Between stages you visit the Chao Garden, a virtual garden where you raise little creatures called Chao. You feed them animals and absorbed abilities, and your choices decide whether your pet grows into a hero or a dark type. It's a deep, addictive mini-game inside the bigger game, and for many fans the Chao Garden is the main reason to love Sonic Adventure 2.
What's included in the gift and what isn't
You get the base Sonic Adventure 2 game on Steam: both campaigns, every stage and the Chao Garden. The game also has a separate add-on — the “Battle” DLC (Battle Mode) — which adds the expanded multiplayer from the GameCube version: extra maps and the Chao Karate mode. That add-on is sold separately on Steam and is not included in this gift — you can buy it yourself for your own account if you want it. We say this upfront so there are no surprises.
How we deliver the gift
Delivery goes through Steam Gift. You provide a friend invite link from your Steam profile and your account region. Important region and library conditions
For the gift to go through smoothly, keep two rules in mind. First: your Steam account region must match the gift region — otherwise Steam simply won't let you accept it. Second: you must not already own Sonic Adventure 2 — Steam won't let you receive a game you already have as a gift. That's the most common reason a gift fails to activate, so check both before paying. Also make sure friend requests are allowed in your profile privacy settings.
Will it run on your PC
This is a lightweight 2012 PC port that runs comfortably even on weak, older hardware under Windows. On Steam Deck and Linux it works through the Proton compatibility layer — it isn't officially tuned for them, but in most cases it's playable, sometimes with minor tweaks. For a classic platformer of this age, the system requirements are minimal.
