Slime Rancher 2 is the sequel to the cult indie game by Monomi Park, where you once again grab your vacpack and set out to explore a bright open world in first person. This time rancher Beatrix LeBeau lands on the mysterious Rainbow Island: she jetpacks between biomes, vacuums up the most adorable slimes, raises them on the Conservatory ranch and harvests plorts to upgrade her gear and unlock new corners of the island. There's no harsh pressure here — it's a calm sandbox about exploration, building and collecting that easily eats up dozens of hours.

What makes the gameplay addictive

The loop is simple and charming: explore the island, find new slimes, suck them up with your vacpack, bring them back to the ranch and feed them their favourite food. Slimes produce plorts — the local currency you sell on the market and spend on upgrades. With the earnings you expand corrals, build gardens and coops, upgrade your vacpack (more slots, dash, new attachments) and unlock access to new regions. The further you go, the more freedom you get: collect rare species, crossbreed slimes into largos, hunt for secrets, or simply decorate your ranch however you like.

Slimes, biomes and the secrets of Rainbow Island

Rainbow Island is split into scenic biomes — from sunny meadows and coral caves to shadowy corners with special slimes. Each species behaves differently: phosphor slimes fear light, cotton slimes are friendly, and tabby slimes adore meat. Some slimes turn dangerous if neglected — hungry or aggressive types can wreak havoc on your ranch, so balancing feeding and care is part of the fun. Beyond slimes, the island is full of treasures, ancient locked doors and puzzles that reveal the history of the place.
