Sid Meier's Civilization VI — the turn-based strategy where you build history
Civilization VI is the sixth installment of the iconic 4X strategy series by Firaxis Games (published by 2K), released on October 21, 2016. You start with a single settlement in the Stone Age and, over dozens of hours in one match, guide your civilization through all of human history — from your first cities to a space program. Here you buy the base game as a Steam gift: our bot delivers it straight into your library, and we'll explain how to accept it below.
What 4X means and why Civ VI eats hundreds of hours
4X stands for explore, expand, exploit, exterminate: scout the map, grow your borders, build your economy and, when needed, wage war. Civilization VI refined the formula to the point where every turn tempts you with "just one more." You pick a leader of a real-world nation — each with unique units, buildings and abilities — and push toward one of several victories: science (first to colonize Mars), culture (the world flocks to your tourism), religion, domination or diplomacy.
The headline feature: cities spread across districts
The key change from earlier entries is the district system. Cities used to sit on a single tile; now campuses, theater squares, harbors, industrial zones and holy sites occupy their own tiles on the map. That turns city planning into a puzzle: where to place a district, which mountains, forests and rivers give it adjacency bonuses, how to line up world wonders. Add the Eureka and Inspiration system that speeds up research for specific actions, and you get a strategy where every tile matters.
What's in this gift
You receive the base Sid Meier's Civilization VI game. That's enough for full matches: dozens of civilizations, every victory type, multiplayer and the editor. The major expansions that meaningfully reshape the game are sold separately:
- Rise and Fall (released February 8, 2018) — golden ages, dark ages, city loyalty and governors.
- Gathering Storm (released February 14, 2019) — natural disasters, climate, engineering projects and the World Congress.
- The New Frontier and Leader Pass season passes, adding new leaders and modes.
If you want everything at once, people usually grab the Anthology bundle — but this particular gift includes the base game only. Expansions can be bought later and layered on top.
How we deliver the gift
Civilization VI is delivered as a Steam Gift via our bot. We need two things from you: your Steam friend invite link and your account region. Everything else is automatic:
- The bot adds itself to your friends — you don't need to accept the request separately.
- It sends the gift — usually within a couple of minutes of your order.
- After delivery, the bot removes itself from your friends.
Steam Guard is not required — the gift goes through even on accounts without it. Two conditions matter on Steam's side: your account region must match the gift region, and the game must not already be in your library (Steam won't let you accept a gift for a game you own). If something goes wrong — say, your friend requests are closed or the link expired — send a fresh link and we'll retry the delivery.
Where to play
Once accepted, the gift lands in your Steam library and is available across all platforms of your account. Civilization VI has native Windows and macOS builds (an Aspyr port), and it's officially supported on Steam Deck — turn-based play fits a handheld perfectly. Online play, crossplay lobbies and cloud saves all work through Steam as usual.
