《蜀山:初章》 Buyout Edition — an open-world xianxia adventure in your Steam library
Shushan: Chapter One (《蜀山:初章》) is a large-scale xianxia (immortal cultivation) game from Chinese studio 重楼工作室 (Chonglou Studio), released on Steam on November 17, 2022. This isn't another corridor action title — it's a living open world built on Unreal Engine 4: a seamless 7,056 km² map where you rise from mortal to immortal, build your own sect, and fight across sky, land and water. You're buying the 买断版 (buyout) edition — a one-time purchase rather than the subscription-style online build. We deliver it to you as a Steam Gift, dropping the game straight into your library.
What “买断版” means and how it differs from the online version
《蜀山:初章》 has several Steam listings: a separate online build (网络版) and the buyout version offered here. Buyout means you pay once and get access without a mandatory subscription. It includes both a single-player mode (explore the world at your own pace) and an online mode (territory wars, sects, player trading, co-op runs). The developer states there are no pay-to-win mechanics: progression is driven by spiritual roots, talents, cultivation methods and randomized gear rolls — not paid power-ups.
A world that doesn't hold your hand
Freedom is Shushan's core. There are no invisible walls and no quest markers dragging you around: you decide where to fly on your sword, which techniques to collect, and which craft to pursue. Alchemy, weapon-forging, artifact-crafting, treasure-hunting — there are many overlapping paths of growth. Combat is three-dimensional, unfolding in the air, on the ground and over water. It's a game about immersing yourself in a world of immortal swordsmen, inspired by the classic novel “Legend of the Swordsmen of the Shu Mountains.”
What you get
- The full 买断版 edition — single-player and online modes, no subscription.
- Access to the entire open world: character growth, sects, crafting, territories.
- The game as a gift in your Steam library — no manual key activation needed.
How the gift is delivered
We send the game via Steam Gift using our supplier's bot. You provide your friend invite link (s.team/p/…) and your Steam account region. The bot adds itself as your friend, sends the gift, and removes itself once delivered — you don't need to accept anything manually. Delivery usually takes a couple of minutes after checkout, and Steam Guard is not required.
Important conditions (read before paying)
Two things must line up for Steam to accept the gift. First, your Steam account region must match the gift region; if they differ, Steam simply won't let you redeem it. Second, 《蜀山:初章》 must not already be in this account's library — Steam refuses a gift for a game you already own, and this is the most common reason deliveries fail. Your profile must also allow friend requests, otherwise the bot can't reach you.
Game language
One key note: the game officially supports Simplified Chinese only — interface, text and voiceover. There's no Russian or English localization. If you don't read Chinese, it's not a dealbreaker (xianxia fans get by with guides), but it's worth knowing before you buy.
The cultivation system and character growth
Progress follows the classic xianxia ladder: from mortal, through stages of qi accumulation, toward immortality. But Shushan doesn't reduce this to a plain level grind. Your ceiling and playstyle are shaped by spiritual roots (which elements you align with), talents and the cultivation methods you pick, while gear drops with randomized properties — you'll rarely find two identical swords. As a result every run feels distinct: one character grows through alchemy and elixirs, another through forging artifacts, a third dives into combat techniques and duels. It leans closer to a roguelike-in-an-open-world than a linear RPG.
Sects, territories and online life
There's a whole social layer too. You can found your own sect, claim territories, get pulled into clan wars and trade via “flying” caravans between players. The online mode inside the buyout edition gives you reasons to keep coming back: the economy, alliances and conflicts are driven not only by script but by other players' choices. And nothing forces you into it — if you prefer, you can live the entire story solo, beholden to no one.
Who it's for
Shushan is for players who love Eastern fantasy, cultivation and big sandboxes where simply living in the world is the fun — flying over mountains, building a sect, hunting rare techniques. If that vibe speaks to you, check out other cultivation and action titles in our catalog: Amazing Cultivation Simulator, Black Myth: Wukong and Naraka: Bladepoint — all drawn from the same Eastern world of myth and martial arts.
In short
The 买断版 is the full 《蜀山:初章》 as a one-time purchase, gifted to you on Steam in a couple of minutes. Make sure your account region matches the gift region and the game isn't already in your library — and welcome to the Shu Mountains.
