The premise of SCUM is survival for prisoners on a televised island arena: you enter this world not as a tourist but as a fighter under watch. There is no "sandbox for show" feeling here: the world presses on you, and that is part of the appeal.

Body simulation — the reason players keep coming back

The game's pride is dozens of interconnected systems that govern the character's body. Metabolism tracks calories, vitamins and hydration; inertia affects how you accelerate and brake; even layers of clothing dry at different speeds depending on the weather. You genuinely plan your diet, watch your weight and stamina, and treat wounds and fractures. This level of detail turns everyday survival into a mini-game of its own that you actually want to master.

225 square kilometres you won't cross in one evening

The SCUM map is about 225 sq km of varied terrain: dense forests give way to fields, beaches and abandoned buildings. For the 1.0 release the island was fully reworked: revamped points of interest, a new foliage system and a snow biome added along the shoreline. The space feels genuinely large, and traversing it is part of the strategy: somewhere it pays to move through the forest, somewhere to race down the road at the risk of being spotted.

Quests, NPCs and bunkers of version 1.0

The release brought a full quest system: predefined missions for survival, scouting and dangerous fights, plus the ability to craft your own tasks. The world was populated with hostile NPCs of two types — mobile Drifters roaming the island, and Guards holding specific locations. They use a five-tier gear system: from an almost naked opponent to a fully kitted tier-five fighter. Secret bunkers accessible with a keycard were added too — the loot there is calmer, but safer than in the hot zones.

Vehicles: from a seaplane to a tractor

You can move on foot, by land vehicles, boats and aircraft. In 1.0 the vehicle roster was expanded and familiar machines returned: a seaplane for long trips, a tractor for chores and a sports bike for quick dashes. Vehicles are not only about speed but a way to escape a fight or, conversely, to chase down prey, so a separate war over the machines often unfolds on servers.

Multiplayer and your own servers

SCUM is built for playing with people: servers hold up to 64 players, and you can rent your own server straight from the in-game menu if you want your own rules. You set the pace yourself — calm PvE worlds for thoughtful survival or brutal PvP arenas where reflexes decide everything. Optional network events throw action at anyone who wants it without breaking the slow, deliberate backbone of the gameplay.

Editions, the Supporter Pack and cosmetics

Besides the base game there is a Deluxe edition and a separate Supporter Pack — a bundle that supports the developers. It includes a glowing blue BCU, a developer undershirt, exclusive weapon camos and charms. Importantly, these are purely visual items and do not affect balance or gameplay. On the product card, check carefully whether you are taking the base game or an edition with bonuses — the currency and lot contents will tell you.

Who SCUM is for and how delivery works

SCUM is not a game for those who want to unwind for half an hour. It is about patience, planning and the cost of a mistake: people come here for depth, long raids and stories that write themselves on a server. The key is global, with no regional lock; from experience it usually goes through even in disputed regions, but we will not vouch for that entirely — much depends on the platform's current policy. If it comes to a dispute over a key, you will need a video of the activation in one continuous take from the moment of purchase to code entry, without editing, cuts or pauses — otherwise the key is treated as non-returnable.
