Resident Evil HD REMASTER: back to where survival horror began
Resident Evil HD REMASTER is the place the whole series grew from. At its core is the 2002 remake Capcom once built for the GameCube, reimagining the 1996 original. The 2015 HD version brings the visuals up to modern screens, repaints backgrounds and textures, adds a widescreen mode and a comfortable modern control scheme — while keeping the classic «tank» controls for anyone who wants that tense, deliberate clumsiness. Buy the key from us and you get a Steam activation code: the game lands in your library and stays yours.
What the game is about
July 1998, on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The S.T.A.R.S. special unit is sent to investigate a string of gruesome murders in the woods, but their support chopper abandons them and the team takes shelter in the abandoned Spencer Mansion. The mansion turns out to be a trap: behind its walls are the consequences of a bio-weapon leak — zombies, mutant creatures and the sinister Umbrella Corporation pulling the strings. You have to make it out alive, solving puzzles and rationing every bullet.
Who you play: Chris or Jill
The game has two protagonists, and it's not just cosmetic. Jill Valentine carries more items, can pick locks and generally has a slightly gentler run through the mansion. Chris Redfield holds fewer items and has no lockpick, but his scenario is harsher and more dramatic in places. Each has their own partners, scenes and story emphasis — so it makes sense to play twice to see the full picture.
Why it's «the» horror
- Scarce resources. Ammo, healing herbs and ink ribbons for saving are precious. Every shot and every save is a deliberate choice.
- Crimson Heads. A downed zombie can «revive» into a faster, deadlier crimson monster if you don't burn the body. It forces you to plan ahead.
- Defense items. A dagger or stun gun lets you break free of an enemy's grab at the cost of a consumable — a signature remake mechanic.
- Puzzles and backtracking. The mansion is a puzzle box of locked doors, crest keys and hidden passages you keep returning to.
What's included
This is the full base Resident Evil HD REMASTER game — all modes, weapons, both scenarios, plus extra unlockable costumes and challenges earned by playing. No mandatory add-on purchase is required to finish the story: you get the complete game. Technically it's a very light 2015 title, so it runs comfortably on modern PCs and feels great on Steam Deck.
Regions: CIS and rest of world
The key comes in two regional versions. The CIS version is meant for CIS-region Steam accounts (Russia and neighbouring countries), the ROW version is for the rest of the world. It's the same game content — the only difference is the activation region. Pick the version matching your Steam account region: if it doesn't match, Steam may refuse the key. If you're unsure of your region, you can see it in your Steam account settings.
How to activate
After payment you receive a code. Open the Steam client, click «Add a Game» at the bottom-left → «Activate a Product on Steam», enter the key and confirm. Resident Evil HD REMASTER appears in your library — just download and launch. It's an outright purchase: no subscription, no expiry.
Replayability and bonuses
The mansion doesn't let go after the credits. Finishing the game unlocks extra costumes, powerful weapons and tougher challenge modes that change enemy placement and make you replay familiar rooms in new ways. Add to that the chase for time records and a «perfect» run with no saves or healing items for an S rank. Two different protagonists, multiple endings and unlockable content give the game a long second life rather than a single linear playthrough.
The atmosphere that grips you
The real strength of Resident Evil HD REMASTER isn't jump scares — it's the constant sense of vulnerability. Fixed cinematic camera angles hide the threat around the corner, the sound of footsteps and groans works on your nerves, and limited inventory slots force you to choose between ammo, a key or healing. It's slow, calculated horror where panic costs your life — which is exactly why it's still considered a genre benchmark.
