FAQ

OCTOPATH TRAVELER II: eight roads across one continent

OCTOPATH TRAVELER II is a turn-based JRPG by Square Enix and the studio Acquire, the follow-up to the acclaimed 2018 adventure. This time the story unfolds across Solistia, a continent split by the sea into eastern and western lands, where an age of steam and trade meets ancient magic. You don't control a single chosen hero — there are eight separate stories, and which one you begin with is up to you.

When you buy the game here, you get it as a Steam Gift. It's a full digital copy that stays on your Steam account forever — only the delivery method differs from a regular store purchase. Below we cover both the game itself and how the handover works.

The signature HD-2D style

The series' calling card is its HD-2D graphics. It blends old-school pixel art in the spirit of classic SNES-era JRPGs with modern effects: volumetric lighting, depth blur, particles and a dynamic camera. The towns of Solistia look like living dioramas, and the day-night cycle repaints the world and shifts the mood of every location. The sequel adds more height and verticality to its levels, making exploration even more rewarding.

Eight heroes, eight destinies

You assemble a party of eight travelers, each with their own profession, personality and personal drama — a merchant, a hunter, an apothecary, a dancer, a scholar and more. The stories don't force themselves into a single line: you choose whose chapter to play next and gradually piece the bigger picture together. This character-driven, anthology approach puts it in the same company as Sea of Stars, where the adventure and its cast matter more than one lone protagonist.

Path Actions and Latent Powers

Every hero interacts with NPCs through a unique Path Action. One can coax an item out of a passerby, another can challenge them to a duel, hire them as backup or dig up a secret. The sequel introduces day and night variants: the same ability behaves differently depending on the time of day, because NPCs change their behavior. Add Latent Powers — personal super-abilities that charge up in battle and can turn the tide of a tough fight — and you get a system where every character truly feels distinct.

Break & Boost combat

Battles are turn-based but anything but passive. The Break system pushes you to hunt for enemy weaknesses: hit the right weapon type or element, shatter the shield and stagger the foe, robbing them of a turn. The Boost system lets you bank points and supercharge attacks or skills at the perfect moment — for example, to finish off an already-broken boss with a flurry of blows. Mastering the timing between "break" and "boost" is the heart of the tactics. If you enjoy deep turn-based combat and classic RPG systems, take a look at Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire too.

What's in the edition

You get the Standard Edition of OCTOPATH TRAVELER II — the full base game with all eight heroes, the complete story and access to the entire continent of Solistia. It's a finished single-player adventure spanning dozens of hours, with no extra payments required to see it through.

How the Steam Gift delivery works

The handover is simple and tidy. After payment, a FazerCards bot will send you a friend request: you do not need to accept it — the bot sends the game to you as a Steam Gift and then leaves. All that's left is to accept the gift in Steam and confirm adding it to your library. The whole process usually takes just a couple of minutes.

A few conditions to keep it smooth:

  • No Steam Guard required — you don't need to disable anything in your account's security to receive the gift.
  • Regions must match. Your Steam account region must match the region of the gift, otherwise Steam won't let you activate it.
  • The game must not already be in your library. If OCTOPATH TRAVELER II is already on your account, Steam won't let you accept a second copy.

The gift is yours forever — it's the same license as a Steam store purchase, just delivered through the gifting system.
