What "Java & Bedrock" means and why you want both

Since 2022 Mojang has sold Java and Bedrock Edition for PC as a single package, which is handy because the two are genuinely different. Java Edition is the classic for Windows, macOS and Linux: open servers, technical mods, datapacks, endless community maps and the original mechanics longtime players love. Bedrock Edition is the cross-platform build for Windows: with it you share a world with friends on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and phones, join Realms and use the Marketplace. How to redeem the key

Activation goes through a Microsoft account, not Steam. After payment you get a code (usually 25 digits). Head to minecraft.net/redeem, sign in to your Microsoft account (or quickly create a free one), enter the code and confirm. The game lands in the account's library instantly, and both Java and Bedrock become available in the Minecraft Launcher — just download. If you happen to get a short 10-digit Microsoft Store code, that one redeems differently, through the console store at xbox.codetocontent.com; but in most cases it's the long code for minecraft.net/redeem.

Standard edition vs Deluxe Collection

There are two options in the catalogue, and both are the full game, not an add-on. The only difference is the bonuses:

  • Standard edition (Java & Bedrock Edition for PC) — the plain game with no cosmetics. Pick this if you just want Minecraft, no frills.
  • Deluxe Collection — the same game plus a bonus bundle: 1600 Minecoins, five maps (Skyblock One Block, Hacker Tools, Pets Collection, Parkour Spiral and Original Bed Wars), three skin packs (Spy Mobs, Cute Anime Teens, Cute Mob Skins), the Clarity texture pack, five Character Creator items and three emotes.

One important note: the Deluxe Collection bonuses (Minecoins, maps, skins, textures, emotes) work in the Bedrock version only — they're Marketplace content. The game itself, of course, unlocks fully in both Java and Bedrock. If you don't need the extras, the standard edition is perfectly fine.

Region and platform
