Mina the Hollower: gothic action from the Shovel Knight creators
Mina the Hollower is an action-adventure by Yacht Club Games β the same team behind Shovel Knight. It launched on May 29, 2026 to universal acclaim: 90β91 on Metacritic, a 98% recommendation rate on OpenCritic, and over half a million copies sold in its first two weeks. Here you buy the game as a Steam gift β after payment the bot sends it straight to your account.
What the game is about
You play Mina, a mouse inventor who arrives on the grim Tenebrous Isle to find out why her Spark Generators have failed. The story unfolds in an 18th-century gothic world, weaving intrigue around the mysterious Thorne and the philanthropist Lionel with the question of what the island's power really costs. The mood is a dark fairy tale with a horror edge, presented in a lovingly recreated Game Boy Color aesthetic.
How it plays
The camera is a three-quarter, near top-down view, like the classic handheld adventures it draws from. Mina's signature trick is the βHollowingβ ability: she burrows underground to slip past hazards, dodge enemies, and become briefly invincible. Above ground you bring an arsenal to bear: a whip, dual daggers, a heavy hammer β each weapon changes the rhythm of combat. On top of that, sidearms and trinkets let you reshape your build around your own style.
- Hollowing β an underground dash for traversal and dodging.
- Weapon choice β whip, daggers, hammer; different pace and range.
- Bones β the currency you spend on stat upgrades.
- Trinkets and sidearms β collect and combine them for your build.
What's included
This is the base version of Mina the Hollower for Steam β the full game, nothing cut. The separate soundtrack and themed bundles on the Steam page are sold on their own and are not part of this lot. You get the game itself, which becomes permanently tied to your Steam account once you accept the gift.
How you receive it
Mina the Hollower is delivered as a Steam Gift. At checkout you provide your Steam friend invite link and your account region. The bot handles the rest: it adds itself as your friend, sends the gift (usually within a couple of minutes), and leaves your friend list after delivery. You don't accept the friend request manually β you only accept the gift itself in Steam.
Two conditions Steam requires before it lets you accept the gift: your account region must match the gift region, and Mina the Hollower must not already be in your library (Steam won't accept a gift for a game you already own β the number-one cause of failed deliveries). Steam Guard is not required, and your profile must allow incoming friend requests.
Combat and builds
Combat in Mina the Hollower is all about choice. The whip swings in an arc and keeps enemies at bay, the dual daggers give you speed and close-range combos, and the heavy hammer breaks defenses in a single big swing. Each main weapon pairs with sidearms β secondary tools and throwables on their own button β while trinkets add passive effects: more damage, more survivability, special tricks. Bones, which you knock out of enemies and find around the world, go toward stat upgrades, so over time your Mina becomes exactly the fighter you want to play.
The world and exploration
Tenebrous Isle is one interconnected world, not a string of separate levels. Hollowing opens shortcuts and secrets where a normal step won't take you: dive underground, slip beneath a wall or a trap, and you land in a room with a trinket or a new route. Gothic 18th-century architecture, grim dungeons, and bosses with their own patterns reward curiosity and punish rushing. It's that old-school feel where the joy is in checking around every corner.
Where it runs
The game targets Windows (64-bit), macOS on Apple Silicon, and Linux/SteamOS, and is marked playable on Steam Deck. It's a standard Steam copy, so it runs anywhere the Steam client is supported β from desktop to handheld.
Who it's for
If you love dense, old-school action-adventures β in the vein of classic Zelda-likes and metroidvanias built around combat and exploration β Mina the Hollower hits the mark. Fans of Shovel Knight will recognize the studio's signature touch, and anyone drawn to a dark atmosphere and a non-linear world should also look at Hollow Knight, another gothic adventure classic.
