Mewgenics: breed mutant cats and march them into tactical hell
Mewgenics is a tactical cat-breeding roguelike that Edmund McMillen (The Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy) and Tyler Glaiel spent over a decade bringing to life. First announced back in 2012 as a successor to Super Meat Boy, it slipped into development hell, got cancelled, and was reborn from scratch. It finally launched on Steam on February 10, 2026 β and sold over a million copies in its first week. Here you get the full game as a Steam gift: it lands straight in your library and stays yours for good.
The idea is simple and unhinged at the same time: you run a house full of cats, breed them, pass down traits and mutations, then send a squad of four furry heroes into turn-based fights on procedurally generated arenas. Every cat is a bundle of classes, genes and temperament, and no two runs play out the same.
So what kind of game is this
Mewgenics stands on two pillars. The first is a home-and-breeding simulation: cats live, age, fall in love and produce kittens with fresh mutations and stats. A good bloodline is your main weapon, because genes decide how strong your next fighter will be. The second pillar is grid-based tactical combat: you lead four cats against procedural enemies, position them across tiles, use class abilities (hunter, mage, tank, fighter) and count your moves. Injured cats carry permanent consequences, and death is death. It's that signature McMillen blend of cuteness and cruelty, where a hard roguelike hides behind a fluffy coat.
What you receive
You receive the full base version of Mewgenics as a Steam gift. It's not a key and not a pre-order β it's a ready gift: after checkout our bot sends the game to your Steam, you accept it, and Mewgenics shows up in your library like any purchased game. No early access either: by the time you buy, the game is fully released and playable in full.
How the gift delivery works
The mechanic is as gentle as it gets. You only provide two things: your Steam friend invite link and your account region. From there our bot adds itself as your friend, sends the gift, and automatically removes itself once delivered β you don't even have to accept the request manually. The whole process usually takes a couple of minutes from checkout, though we don't promise a strict deadline. Steam Guard isn't required: the gift goes through even on an account without it.
Two conditions Steam won't bend on
This is where you don't want to slip, because the limits come from Steam itself, not from us:
- Your account region must match the gift region. If your Steam is registered in a different region, the system simply won't let you accept the gift. So state your region honestly and accurately.
- Mewgenics must not already be in your library. Steam doesn't let you accept a gift for a game you already own. If it's already purchased, this delivery option won't work.
One more small thing: your profile must allow friend requests, otherwise the bot can't reach you. If something goes wrong β blocked requests or an outdated invite link β just allow friend requests, send a fresh link, and we'll resend the gift.
Why Mewgenics is worth sinking into
This is the rare case where a "cute cat game" turns out to be a deep tactical sandbox. Mutation combos, inheritance, gene-based builds, permanent combat consequences β you'll want to experiment endlessly, breeding the perfect tank one run and a walking disaster the next. McMillen's recognizable dark humor, a great Ridiculon soundtrack and endless replayability make Mewgenics one of the standout indie premieres of 2026.
If you love Edmund McMillen's games
Mewgenics grew out of the same workshop as the creator's cult hits. If that style clicks with you, check out The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth with its endless builds and grim humor, or the brutal platformer Super Meat Boy, the spiritual parent Mewgenics was once meant to follow. Fans of his moodier projects will also enjoy The End Is Nigh.
The short version
Mewgenics β full game, Steam gift straight to your library, bot delivery usually within a couple of minutes, no Steam Guard. Check the two conditions β matching region and that you don't already own the game β and dive into the strangest cat roguelike of the year.
