Metro Exodus: Steam Key, Editions and DLC
Metro Exodus is the finale of the metro trilogy from 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver, released on 15 February 2019. It draws on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel Β«Metro 2035Β» and continues Artyom's story from Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. But where the earlier games kept you in the dark tunnels of the Moscow underground, here Artyom and his squad of Spartans break out to the surface and set off across a scorched Russia aboard the Aurora armoured train, searching for a place still fit to live.
What the game is about
It's a first-person shooter built heavily around survival and stealth. Every chapter is a new region and a new season: the spring floods of the Volga, the blistering desert around the Caspian, the autumn taiga. Levels are now semi-open: you get a map, binoculars and the freedom to choose your approach β quietly clear a bandit camp under cover of night, or go in loud. Ammo is still scarce, weapons are cleaned by hand at the workbench, and your gas mask needs fresh filters and a wiped visor. The world responds to your choices: morality here isn't a meter, it's who you spared and who you abandoned, and it shapes your ending.
Editions: base and Gold Edition
We deliver a Steam key β pick the item you want and the game lands in your library. To keep things clear, here's what each option contains:
- Metro Exodus β the full base game with the entire main story and the Aurora journey. Global key.
- Gold Edition β the base game plus the Expansion Pass, meaning both story DLCs at once. The most complete set in a single key, the better value if you plan to play everything.
DLC: The Two Colonels and Sam's Story
Metro Exodus has two major story expansions, and both require the base game on your account β neither runs on its own.
The Two Colonels (released 20 August 2019) is a prequel set in the Novosibirsk metro before the Aurora crew arrives. You play as Colonel Khlebnikov on New Year's Eve, pushing through poisoned tunnels to learn what became of the city and its people. The atmosphere is even denser than the main game β a return to the series' classic underground horror. This DLC also has a separate CIS-region variant that only activates on a CIS account, so check the label in the item name.
Sam's Story (released 11 February 2020) puts you in control of Sam, an American marine stranded in Russia after the nuclear war. The action moves to the port city of Vladivostok, where Sam dreams of only one thing β getting home. It's a large non-linear location with new weapons, new mutants and hours of gameplay, and it pushes the open-level design of the main game even further.
Expansion Pass bundles both expansions above (The Two Colonels and Sam's Story) into one key. It also requires the base game. If you already own the base, the Expansion Pass is the simplest way to pick up all the story content; if you don't, look at Gold Edition instead.
Region and key activation
The base game, Gold Edition and most DLCs are global keys: they activate on Steam in any region worldwide. Activation is simple β in the Steam client open the Β«GamesΒ» menu β Β«Activate a Product on SteamΒ», enter your code, and the game or DLC appears in your library. The one exception is the separate The Two Colonels variant marked CIS, which only works on an account of that region. Always check the region in the specific item name before buying.
Platforms: PC, Steam Deck, Linux
This is the PC version for Steam. On Steam Deck, Metro Exodus runs great through Proton, and plenty of players finish it on the go. On Linux it launches through the same Proton compatibility layer β there's no native build, but it's the same key. Owners also get the separate PC Enhanced Edition with expanded ray tracing: it's a free upgrade for anyone who already has Metro Exodus in their Steam library, no extra key needed.
If the series hooks you
If the metro world grabs you, check out the earlier games and kindred post-apocalyptic worlds: Metro: Last Light and Metro 2033 show where Artyom's journey underground began, while S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 delivers the same uneasy survival tension in the Exclusion Zone.
