Metro 2033 Redux — a Steam Gift back into the tunnels
Metro 2033 Redux is the remaster of 4A Games' 2010 cult classic, rebuilt on a newer version of the 4A engine. It's based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's post-apocalyptic novel: after a nuclear war, the remnants of humanity hide in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro, and you play as young survivor Artyom. Mutants on the surface, anomalies in the dark and people who can be more dangerous than any creature — the Metro world keeps you on edge from the first station to the finale. With us you grab it as a Steam Gift: it lands straight in your account, with no codes to enter.
What Redux is and why it matters
The original Metro 2033 launched in 2010, and Redux arrived on 26 August 2014 as the definitive version. The developers carried over everything from the sequel Metro: Last Light — smarter enemy AI, responsive controls, reworked animation and weapon handling. The visuals are noticeably cleaner and it simply plays better. If you've never been to the Metro, Redux is the place to start: the same story, in its best shape.
Two play-styles and Ranger Mode
Redux offers two modes for different tastes. «Spartan» is a more combat-driven pace built around gunfights, closer to Last Light. «Survival» brings back the original's spirit: fewer bullets, more dread, survival on the edge. On top of that sits the legendary Ranger Mode — it strips the HUD and makes combat tough and realistic. In the original, Ranger Mode was sold as separate DLC; in Redux it's already included, nothing extra to buy.
What the gift includes
- The full single-player Metro 2033 Redux campaign.
- Two play-styles — Spartan and Survival.
- Ranger Mode bundled in (previously paid DLC).
- All 4A engine upgrades: visuals, AI, gunplay, animation.
This is a standalone full game, not an add-on — there's no «base version» to buy first. The gift adds the game to your library like any normal purchase.
The gift region equals your account region
One key point: the gift's region is set by your Steam account's region. The gift is accepted onto the account you receive it on and is tied to that account's region — there's no separate country to pick, it adapts to you. There's also one condition: the game must not already be in your library, otherwise Steam won't let you accept the gift. If you already own Metro 2033 Redux, the gift won't go through.
How you receive the gift
It's all simple, with no manual fiddling. After your order, an our bot adds you as a friend on Steam, sends you Metro 2033 Redux as a gift, and once you accept it the bot removes itself from your friends. All you have to do is accept the incoming gift in Steam: open the notification, hit «Accept» — and the game lands in your library. There's no product to activate, no key or code to type at all. Steam Guard isn't required to receive it either. We aim to deliver fast, and the gift usually arrives within a couple of minutes of your order.
Where the series goes next
Finished the first part — there are two more big chapters of Artyom's story ahead. The direct sequel is Metro: Last Light Redux, also remastered. The series' climax, with the journey to the surface and huge semi-open locations, is Metro Exodus. If you love dark story-driven first-person shooters, also check out S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl — a kindred post-Soviet post-apocalypse atmosphere.
The atmosphere worth coming back for
Metro 2033 isn't about action for action's sake. What matters more is the silence in the tunnels, the flashlight flickering on the walls, a rustle behind you and the constant counting of bullets. Military-grade rounds work both as currency and as your best ammo — and every time you decide whether to spend them on a purchase or load them into your gun. Your gas-mask fogs up and cracks, filters run out, and on the surface you're racing a timer. These little details are what build the tension: you're not a hero with an armoury, but a person who badly wants to make it to the next station. Redux kept that fragility intact and simply wrapped it in a smoother, prettier shell.
Who it's for
If you love story-driven single-player shooters with strong atmosphere and aren't chasing multiplayer — this is your game. Survival fans should switch on the «Survival» style and Ranger Mode right away: that's when the Metro truly opens up. And if you just want a solid story without extra hardcore, «Spartan» gives a more dynamic pace. Either way you get a complete, many-hours campaign with no online obligations and no microtransactions.
