MechWarrior 5: Clans is a story-driven mech combat game from Piranha Games, released on October 16, 2024. After the open world of the previous entry, the series changes course sharply: here you get a linear, cinematic campaign set in the BattleTech universe. You lead a star of five freshly minted MechWarriors from Clan Smoke Jaguar during Operation Revival — the Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere. It's the first time since MechWarrior 2 (1995) that the conflict is told from the Clans' own perspective. With us you buy the full game and receive it as a Steam gift straight to your account.
What the game is and why it grabs you
Unlike the sandbox of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, Clans leans into its story: connected missions, Unreal Engine 5 cutscenes and a living cast in your star, each with their own personality. Between battles you return to your ship, talk with your starmates and watch the invasion unfold step by step. On the battlefield you pilot heavy Clan mechs with signature tech: long-range lasers, autocannons, missile salvos and heat you constantly have to manage. Customization is still the heart of it: swap chassis, weapons and armor to build a mech around your style.
Campaign and co-op
You can play the campaign solo, commanding your star through orders to your starmates, or in co-op for up to five players, where each person takes control of their own mech. For co-op, every participant needs their own copy of the game. If you love coordinating heavy machines as a team, this is one of the strongest parts of Clans.

How we deliver the gift

Clan mechs and battlefield tactics
Mechs in Clans aren't just guns on legs — they're a build kit for the job. Light machines scout the map and flank, mediums keep the tempo, and heavy and assault mechs like the Timber Wolf or Mad Cat smash fortifications and enemy stars head-on. Clan tech hits farther and more accurately than Inner Sphere gear, but runs hotter — so heat management becomes its own mini-game: can you squeeze in one more laser volley before overheating, or do you vent and expose yourself. You're not alone on the field: you command your starmates, ordering them to focus fire, fall back or cover a flank. Smart positioning matters as much as your own aim.
Story and the mood of the invasion
The story is told as a young Clan warrior's path: from the ritual Trial to the brutal battles of Operation Revival. Between missions you watch your comrades grow and change, and the Clan code strain against the reality of war. It's a rare inside look at Clan Smoke Jaguar for the series — no romanticizing, with conflicts inside your own star. If you know the BattleTech universe from the tabletop or old MechWarrior 2, you'll recognize names and factions; if not, the game eases you in through briefings and dialogue.
Performance and platform
This is the Steam version (Windows PC). The game runs on Unreal Engine 5 and is fairly demanding at high settings thanks to detailed mechs and destructible environments, so it's worth checking the system requirements on the Steam page before buying. Both mouse and keyboard and gamepad are supported. After you accept the gift, the game stays on your account forever — it's a purchase you own, not a rental or subscription.
