Laika: Aged Through Blood β a motorvania western about a coyote against the Birds
Laika: Aged Through Blood is a 2D metroidvania where you almost never get off the motorcycle. Throttle, brake, turn, jump and mid-air flip aren't tricks for show β they're the combat system: flipping blocks enemy bullets and reloads your weapon at the same time. The game was built by the independent Madrid studio Brainwash Gang, who work without strict roles in the team, and the music was written by Beatriz Β«BeΓcoliΒ» Ruiz-Castillo. It launched on Steam on October 19, 2023, and here you buy a Steam activation key.
What the story is about
Laika's world is a post-apocalyptic western where the Birds declared themselves a biologically superior race and conquered the land. You play as a coyote named Laika β a mother who defends her village from bird soldiers and carries a family curse: the women of her bloodline are immortal and can hear spirits. Death here isn't an ending but part of a loop β you rise again and again, and out of that endless weariness grows a surprisingly personal, grown-up story about revenge, motherhood and the price of resistance.
How it plays
The gameplay rests on one idea polished to a shine: the motorcycle is both your legs and your shield. You ride across hills and ruins, shoot down birds, keep your balance over ramps and flip at the right moment so a bullet doesn't catch you. New map areas, weapons and moves open up over time β hence the metroidvania label. It's a game with attitude: it can be demanding, and part of the joy is nailing the perfect run through a canyon full of gunfire.

What's included
You receive a Steam activation key for the full version of the game. On Steam, Laika has a single edition β the full game, with no separate paid DLC: the whole story campaign and the original soundtrack are already inside. Physical collector's editions on discs (Standard and Deluxe for consoles) with postcards and cards do exist, but they have nothing to do with the digital Steam key β those are different products.
Region and activation
This is a regional key for Russia/CIS. For it to activate without trouble, your Steam account region should be Russia. On an account from another region Steam may refuse activation, so check the region beforehand. Activation itself is simple: open Steam, click Β«GamesΒ» at the bottom-left β Β«Activate a Product on SteamΒ», enter the key β and the game lands in your library and stays with the account forever.
Platform and hardware
The key is for the Steam version on PC (Windows). The game is 2D and undemanding, so it runs even on modest setups, and many people finish it on Steam Deck through the Proton compatibility layer. There is no native Linux build, but it usually runs through Steam β the current Steam Deck status is easy to check right on the game's Steam page.
Difficulty and pacing
Laika is honest with you: there's no easy stroll here. Birds shoot from every angle, cliffs punish a little too much throttle, and bosses make you learn the flip timings by heart. But the game almost never throws you far back β checkpoints are frequent, and death is woven right into the story, so a retry doesn't annoy, it fires you up. If you love it when a tough stretch finally yields on the tenth attempt and you feel yourself growing as a player, this is your kind of game. If you want to fully relax, keep in mind that Laika is about discipline and rhythm, not a gentle ride across the map.
Atmosphere, art and music
Beyond the mechanics, the main thing people love about Laika is the mood. The hand-painted backdrops hold a single palette of a sun-bleached apocalypse: wastelands, abandoned settlements, blood-orange sunsets. The animation of the bike and Laika reads instantly, so even in the chaos of a fight you understand what's happening. On top of it all sits the melancholic, at times almost lullaby-like score by Beatriz Β«BeΓcoliΒ», carrying the story through both the quiet and the furious moments. Together the art and music do exactly what you play games like this for: they build a world you believe in.
