Kingdom Come: Deliverance — medieval Bohemia with no magic at all
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a historical open-world RPG by the Czech studio Warhorse Studios, released on 13 February 2018. There's no magic, no dragons and no elves here — just a meticulously recreated Bohemia of 1403, real historical lands of the Holy Roman Empire, genuine castles and villages, and the fate of an ordinary lad named Henry, a blacksmith's son from Skalitz. War took his family and home, and now he has to grow from an unarmed refugee into someone people reckon with. On this page you're buying a Steam activation key — either the base game or one of the add-ons.
What makes it special
The heart of Kingdom Come: Deliverance is realism in everything. Swordplay is built on four attack directions, blocking, feints and combos: mashing a button gets you killed — you actually have to learn to fence. Henry starts out unable to read, fight or ride a horse; every skill is earned through practice rather than handed to you. Food spoils, armour and clothes get dirty and wear out, your reputation in each town depends on your deeds, and night-time jobs force you to mind lighting and sleeping NPCs. It's an RPG for people who want to feel the weight of the Middle Ages, not gallop through them.
A Bohemia worth living in
The open world is built on real geography — the towns of Rattay, Sasau, Skalitz and Talmberg actually existed. The plot weaves through genuine historical events in the struggle for the Bohemian throne, and the characters speak and dress as they might have in the early 15th century. The developers consulted historians, reenactors and weaponsmiths, so every sword, every gambeson and every prayer feels in its place. If you love the atmosphere of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt but want to strip out the magic and keep pure realism, this is your game.
The base game and the add-ons
This page offers the base Kingdom Come: Deliverance and a set of add-ons (DLC). One thing to keep in mind: the add-ons are not standalone copies of the game — they only work on top of an installed base version. Here's what each one brings:
- From the Ashes (6 July 2018) — a meaty gameplay mode where you rebuild and run the abandoned village of Pribyslavitz, appoint a bailiff, raise houses and workshops and earn a steady income.
- The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon (22 January 2019) — a comedic storyline in which Henry helps the cheeky nobleman Hans Capon with his romantic escapades.
- Band of Bastards (6 February 2019) — a grim tale about a mercenary company led by the stern Sir Kuno: raids, ambushes and uneasy moral choices.
- A Woman's Lot (29 May 2019) — a storyline you can play as Theresa of Skalitz to see events from another side, plus a loyal dog companion that helps in hunting and combat.
- Treasures of the Past (10 April 2018) — a small add-on with treasure maps and starting gear for anyone who wants an early head start.
Every add-on needs the base game already activated on your Steam account. If you don't own the base yet, start there.
Global and regional (CIS) keys
Some positions come in two key types. The global (GLOBAL) key activates in Steam in any region worldwide — the universal choice. The regional CIS key is usually cheaper but only activates on an account whose region is set to CIS (Russia and CIS countries). The region is always shown right in the position title, so just match it to your Steam region before buying. When in doubt, take the global version — it works everywhere.
How to activate
Activation takes a couple of minutes: open Steam, go to the 'Games' menu → 'Activate a Product on Steam', enter the code you received, and the game lands in your library to stay on your account for good. Add-ons need the base game installed first. After activation you can download and play, including on Steam Deck and Linux via Proton.
Who it's for
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is for fans of thoughtful role-playing games with a big world, a serious story and combat you have to master. If Red Dead Redemption 2 won you over with its unhurried pace and attention to detail, Warhorse's medieval Bohemia will click for the same reasons. And once you finish the original, the sequel Kingdom Come: Deliverance II carries the same formula forward.
