ICARUS: co-op survival on a world humanity couldn't tame
ICARUS is a session-based survival game from RocketWerkz, the studio led by Dean Hall β the designer who originally created DayZ. It launched on 4 December 2021 and has since grown through dozens of updates, expansions and modes. You play a Prospector: you drop from an orbital station onto the surface of Icarus, a terraformed exoplanet that humanity tried to turn into a second Earth before things went wrong. The air is breathable, but the world is hostile, the weather can kill as easily as the wildlife, and buried underground is the exotic matter that everyone is really here for.
With this product you receive a Steam Gift of the base ICARUS game. We send the gift straight to your Steam account through a bot β details on exactly how that works are below.
What makes ICARUS tick
The core hook of ICARUS is the timer. Most missions are time-limited: you drop in, complete your objective (explore, harvest, clear, build) and have to make it back to the evacuation window β miss it and you're stranded. That turns ordinary survival into a tense expedition: every resource run is a choice between "one more haul" and "time to head for the shuttle." You can play solo or in co-op with up to 8 players, and the missions open up very differently with a team β one builds the base, one hunts, one mines ore.
Progress carries between missions as talents, blueprints and exotic currency. You level up skill trees and unlock new technology β from a simple campfire and stone tools all the way to advanced electronics, concrete bunkers and automated systems. Crafting is deep and multi-stage: getting top-tier gear means building an entire production chain.
The world, the weather and the wildlife
Icarus isn't a static backdrop. Biomes shift from forests to arctic tundra, deserts, swamps and volcanic zones, each with its own climate and threats. Sandstorms, blizzards, downpours and heat waves force you to build shelter, watch your temperature and stockpile food and water. The local fauna β from harmless deer to wolf packs and large predators β reacts to your presence, and careless noise can cost you your life. Survival here is about planning: what to pack, where to make camp, how not to run out of oxygen or warmth at the worst possible moment.
Editions and expansions
This gift is the base version of ICARUS β the full game with all the core content. On top of it, RocketWerkz has released major paid expansions that add new maps, biomes and mechanics:
- New Frontiers β open worlds and long sessions without a hard timer, for players who want to settle in for the long haul.
- Styx β a separate moon map with its own environment and challenges.
- Cosmetic and content packs β pet companions, themed outposts, and homestead sets for decorating your base.
All expansions are purchased separately inside Steam once the base game is in your library. They're not part of this gift β but you need the base game first anyway, so this is where to start.
How we deliver the gift
Delivery is via Steam Gift, not a code. After payment, our bot adds itself to your friends using the invite link you provide and sends the gift β usually within a couple of minutes. You don't need to accept the friend request manually, and after delivery the bot removes itself from your friends list automatically. Steam Guard is not required to receive the gift.
For everything to go smoothly, two conditions matter: your Steam account region must match the gift region, and you must not already own base ICARUS β Steam won't let you accept a gift for a game already on your account. So enter your region accurately and check your library before buying.
System requirements and platform
ICARUS runs on PC via Steam (Windows). It needs a modern gaming-class GPU β the world is large and detailed, with dynamic weather and physics. Before buying, check the game's Steam page and compare your setup to the recommended requirements, especially if you plan to play on high settings or in co-op.
Who ICARUS is for
If you enjoy survival built around crafting, base-building and co-op, ICARUS is a great pick, especially with friends. In spirit it sits alongside other big survival games: check out Rust for hardcore PvP survival, Valheim for cozy co-op exploration, or V Rising for survival with a different setting. Grab ICARUS when you specifically want a sci-fi expedition to an alien planet with a timer and serious crafting.
