Hogwarts Legacy: your Hogwarts letter a century before Harry Potter
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world adventure set in the late-1800s Wizarding World, where you step through the castle gates not as a first-year but straight into your fifth year — and with a rare gift for ancient magic. This isn't a retelling of someone else's story: it's your own path — the Sorting Hat, your house, your first spells, the castle's secret passages and the wide world beyond its walls. The game was developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under the Portkey Games label; the PC version launched on February 10, 2023. We deliver it as a Steam gift, so once it arrives it simply appears in your Steam library.
What the game is and why it pulls you in
This is a full open-world action-RPG: Hogwarts castle with its moving staircases and talking portraits, the village of Hogsmeade, the surrounding Highlands full of forests, caves and beast dens, poacher camps and dungeons crawling with rebel goblins. You brew potions in a cauldron, grow plants in the Room of Requirement, rescue and care for magical beasts in the Vivarium, and master offensive, control and force spells you can chain into combos. You roam the map on broomsticks and mounts — a hippogriff among them. The story centers on lost ancient magic and who wants to seize it, while dozens of side quests, Merlin Trials and puzzle rooms wait alongside it.
Editions: Standard and Digital Deluxe
We offer two variants, and both are the complete game — the only difference is the extra pack.
- Standard Edition — the game itself, no extras. The full story, open world, every house and mechanic. The right pick if you just want the adventure and the gameplay.
- Digital Deluxe Edition — the same game plus the Dark Arts pack: the Thestral mount (a separate flying ride), the Dark Arts cosmetic set, the Garrison hat, and a standalone Dark Arts Battle Arena with waves of enemies. These are cosmetics and an extra mode — they don't change the main story, but they add style and a fresh challenge.
Deluxe also used to include 72 hours of early access, but the game has long since released, so that perk is now historical and doesn't affect your purchase — you pick Deluxe for the Thestral, the cosmetics and the arena, not for an early start.
Houses, customization and combat
At the start the Sorting Hat places you into one of the four houses — Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff — and your choice shapes both the shared story and a house-exclusive quest. You build your own witch or wizard: appearance, voice, body type, robes and accessories. Combat revolves around spell schools: control (Levioso, Accio), damage (Incendio, Confringo), shields, and the Unforgivable Curses if you choose to learn them — you chain them live and assign loadouts from the spell wheel. You grow stronger through trials, potion recipes, greenhouses and a talent tree, so by the finale your wizard feels noticeably different from where you started.
How the gift reaches you
Delivery goes through a Steam Gift sent by our bot. You provide your friend invite link (it looks like s.team/p/...) and your Steam account region. The bot then adds itself as your friend, sends the gift, and removes itself once delivery is done — you don't have to accept anything manually. Steam Guard is not required. Delivery usually takes a couple of minutes after checkout, though that's the typical speed rather than a fixed guarantee.
Region and the key condition
Steam will only accept the gift if your account region matches the gift region, so enter your region accurately and choose the matching variant. The second must-have: Hogwarts Legacy must not already be in your library — Steam won't let you accept a gift for a game you already own. Adding friends must also be allowed in your profile settings, otherwise the bot can't reach you.
Where you can play
The gift lands in your normal Steam library, so you can play on Windows PC and on the Steam Deck, where it runs via Proton. No separate launchers — everything lives inside Steam, just like any game you'd buy.
