Buy God of War Ragnarök as a Steam gift
A Norse prophecy, the Leviathan Axe, father and son against gods and giants — God of War Ragnarök has reached PC and become one of the standout story-driven action games on Steam. Below we lay out what is inside, how the editions differ, whether Valhalla is included, and how to grab it all as a gift without any fuss.
What God of War Ragnarök is about
It is a story-driven action-adventure from Santa Monica Studio and the direct sequel to the 2018 reboot. Kratos and a grown-up Atreus travel through the nine realms of Norse mythology toward Ragnarök — the end of days prophesied for them both. Along the way they meet Freya, Tyr, Odin and Thor, unravel the mystery of Atreus’s origin and ask whether fate can be cheated. The PC Steam version launched on 19 September 2024.
It is more than a hack-and-slash: Ragnarök leans on a strong drama about fatherhood, guilt and growing up, and spectacular fights sit beside quiet fireside conversations. That balance is what made the series iconic. Atreus is maturing and increasingly acts on his own, gaining his own playable chapters, while the father-son bond is tested to the limit — giving the story a depth rare for action games. Around them stands a whole cast of vivid characters: the wise Mimir, the smiths Brok and Sindri, the fierce Freya, each with their own arc and personality.
Combat system and gear
Kratos wields the icy Leviathan Axe, the fiery Blades of Chaos and a multi-mode shield. Every weapon can be upgraded, its handles and pommels swapped, and its runes and spells combined. Atreus supports in combat with his bow and abilities, while a flexible armour system lets you build for your style: from a tank to a stagger-focused striker.
- Leviathan — freeze, control and a recall-to-hand throw.
- Blades of Chaos — fire, long combos and crowd work.
- Armour and runes — dozens of combinations for aggression, defence or magic.
What is included: Standard, Digital Deluxe and Valhalla
The key perk of the PC release: the free roguelite add-on God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is available from launch and comes with both Standard and Digital Deluxe at no extra cost. Standard is the full game plus Valhalla. Digital Deluxe adds digital extras on top: an armour set and weapon handles, themed cosmetics, plus a digital artbook and soundtrack. Which edition a given lot holds is stated in its description.
Getting Ragnarök as a gift
We send Ragnarök as a Steam gift, we do not log into your account. The order goes like this: you pay, receive a Steam invite link or a friend request from our bot, then it is manual — Steam → Friends → Add a Friend → accept the invite. Once confirmed, the game settles into your library for good. No third-party launchers, no handing over passwords.
Lot region and what to do on a mismatch
A lot is tied to a region, and the easiest tell is the currency: roubles mean CIS, tenge mean Kazakhstan, and so on. Take the lot for your Steam account region. If you grab the wrong region, Steam will not let you accept the gift — then we refund the money to your internal balance and you pick the correct lot. Likewise if the game is already in your library: a duplicate cannot be accepted and the funds return to your balance.
Why it pays to buy here
You get a full Steam licence with all updates, achievements and cloud saves, including the free Valhalla. No sign-up on outside services is needed, Steam Guard is not required to accept the gift, and if region or duplicate snags occur, the funds return to your balance. Got a store promo code? Enter it in the cart before payment and the discount recalculates automatically.
PC version: tech and performance
The PC port is built thoughtfully: support for 21:9 and 32:9 ultrawide monitors, an unlocked framerate, DLSS upscalers and other graphics options. Before buying, do check the system requirements on the Steam page — that way you tune the settings to your hardware and hold a steady framerate in the most spectacular fights.
The nine realms and side content
Ragnarök noticeably widens the scale: all nine realms of Norse mythology are now open to you — from frozen Midgard and the fungal forests of Vanaheim to scorching Muspelheim and gloomy Helheim. Each region is not a corridor but a rich space with puzzles, hidden caches, optional bosses and stories that flesh out the main plot. Exploration is generously rewarded: upgrade resources, rare gear and entire narrative arcs hide off the beaten path.
Side quests here are not empty checkboxes but small stories with characters and consequences. Favours for your companions, shrine clearing, sled races and treasure vaults give the world life. And for those craving a real challenge, optional bosses are on hand that will test your skill far harder than the story fights.
Should you start without the first game
Ragnarök directly continues God of War 2018, so knowing the first game’s events sharpens the emotional payoff. There is a short recap at the start, but if you remember Kratos and Atreus’s journey, the finale hits far harder. Newcomers to the genre are welcome too — difficulty scales from a relaxed story stroll to hardcore for veterans, and the tutorial eases you into the mechanics of combat, parries and gear. So you can jump in with any level of experience.
Where to head next
Loved the epic scale, the choices and the living characters? Look at Baldur's Gate 3 — a vast D&D RPG where your decisions genuinely reshape the story. Drawn to harsh battles and the tactics of war? Then Men of War serves up sprawling engagements and vehicle command. And to save up for any release, keep Steam wallet top-up handy and load your balance whenever it suits you.
