Final Fantasy XVI: Square Enix dark fantasy as a Steam gift
Final Fantasy XVI is the sixteenth mainline entry in the legendary series and easily its darkest, most mature turn yet. Square Enix dropped turn-based combat in favour of cinematic real-time action: you play Clive Rosfield, sworn protector of his younger brother, dragged through the war, politics and tragedy of the world of Valisthea. It's a story of revenge, growing up and a fight against the very nature of the crystals civilisation depends on. There's no classic four-hero party here — the focus is Clive's personal drama and his bond with the Eikons, the towering summons the whole game is built around.
We deliver Final Fantasy XVI as a Steam gift: you pick an edition, leave your invite link and account region, and our bot drops the game straight into your library. Below we break down how the editions differ, what the DLC adds and how delivery works so there are no surprises.
What kind of game this is
If you're expecting a classic Final Fantasy with ATB bars and menu commands, XVI works differently. Combat is real-time and closer to a character-action game: dodges, parries, combos and swapping between Eikon abilities mid-fight. Each Eikon — Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Bahamut and more — gives its own moveset and element, and over time you build a personal combat style out of them. The narrative is delivered with prestige-TV staging and voice acting, and the big summon clashes turn into standalone set-pieces the size of a whole level.
Editions: Standard and Complete Edition
There are two options in the catalogue, and the only difference is DLC:
- Standard — the full main campaign of Final Fantasy XVI, uncut. Clive's entire story from start to finish.
- Complete Edition — the same game plus two story expansions: “Echoes of the Fallen” and “The Rising Tide”. Pick this if you want all the content and the endgame right away.
Both editions include the base game inside — these are not upgrades that need a copy you already own. You buy either one from scratch.
What the Complete Edition DLC adds
Echoes of the Fallen is a story chapter set close to the main game's finale. Strange dark crystals start surfacing on the black market, and the investigation leads Clive to a long-abandoned Fallen tower, the Sagespire. The expansion brings new battles, weapons, accessories and a higher level cap.
The Rising Tide is the larger expansion, with a new area — the hidden land of Mysidia. You gain new Eikonic abilities and face off against the water Eikon, Leviathan the Lost. Beyond the story, it adds a full endgame mode, Kairos Gate: 20 stages of intense ranked battles for anyone who wants to push the combat system to its limit.
Platform and performance
This is the PC version of the game for Steam: once the gift is delivered, Final Fantasy XVI sits in your library like any purchased game. Square Enix openly notes the game is hardware-heavy, so check the system requirements on the Steam page before buying. It does run on Steam Deck, but as a playable experience at reduced settings rather than a showcase of smoothness.
How gift delivery works
The gift is sent by our bot. You provide a Steam friend invite link and your account region. The bot adds itself, sends the gift and leaves once it's delivered — you don't need to accept anything, and Steam Guard isn't required. The whole thing usually takes a couple of minutes from checkout, but we don't promise a hard deadline: sometimes it's a little longer.
Two conditions Steam needs to accept a gift: your account region must match the gift region, and Final Fantasy XVI must not already be in that library. Also make sure friend requests are allowed in your privacy settings — otherwise the bot simply can't reach you.
Who it's for
Anyone who loves story-driven single-player RPGs with strong direction and spectacle, and who's been wanting a grown-up Final Fantasy with real war in the background. If you enjoy action games with deep combat but still care about narrative, this is a strong pick. If you're a fan of the classic turn-based series specifically, just know that XVI is a genre shift.
