Around him gathers a colourful crew: his friend Penelo, the charming sky pirate Balthier and his viera partner Fran, the disgraced knight Basch, and Princess Ashe herself. Each carries a thread of the plot, and together they unravel the mysteries behind the Archadian invasion. The dialogue and staging hold up as grand drama.

Gambits — combat you program

The battle system of FINAL FANTASY XII is built around gambits: you set your heroes' behaviour rules in advance — who to heal, who to hit, when to buff. The party acts on that logic on its own while you step in at key moments. It is closer to conducting than to the usual menu-picking, and that is exactly why tacticians love XII.
