FAQ

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster: two legendary JRPGs in a single key

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster is a re-release of two iconic Square Enix role-playing games, launched on Steam on May 12, 2016. One product bundles FINAL FANTASY X — the story of the summoner Yuna and the displaced athlete Tidus on a pilgrimage across the world of Spira against an eternal threat called Sin — together with its direct sequel FINAL FANTASY X-2, where Yuna, Rikku and Paine explore that same world in a lighter, faster-paced tone. Buying from us gets you a global Steam activation key that unlocks both games at once.

What's included

The remaster is built on the International versions of both games, which means you also get content that never reached the Western PlayStation 2 releases:

  • FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY X-2 in full, with upgraded HD visuals;
  • the Expert Sphere Grid — an alternate progression board for FFX with more freedom in how you build characters;
  • extra superbosses: the Dark Aeons and Penance, a serious challenge for a fully leveled party;
  • the Eternal Calm story episode that bridges X and X-2;
  • Last Mission — an additional dungeon mode for FINAL FANTASY X-2;
  • the Will audio drama, set a year after the events of X-2.

What the Steam PC version adds

The Steam build is more than a straight port. Square Enix layered in quality-of-life features that noticeably change how the games feel to play:

  • resolution support up to 4K;
  • game boosters: battle speed-up and a no-random-encounters mode — a relief during grinding and replays;
  • parameter tweaks (such as maxed HP/MP/gil);
  • a toggle between the original and the rearranged soundtrack;
  • autosave and the option to skip FMV cutscenes.

Combat and progression

FINAL FANTASY X dropped the series' usual ATB gauge in favor of the CTB (Conditional Turn-Based) system: the turn order is shown in advance in the corner of the screen, and fast actions or spells can shuffle it — turning every fight into a small tactical puzzle. Character growth runs on the Sphere Grid, a huge board of nodes where party members unlock stats and abilities, and the Expert version from the International release opens it up even further, letting you grow any hero in any direction. FINAL FANTASY X-2 swaps that out for the dressphere system — instant in-battle «job» changes from Warrior and Black Mage to more exotic roles — alongside a return to the faster ATB combat.

The world of Spira and its heroes

The story unfolds in Spira, a world living under the constant threat of a colossal monster called Sin, whose appearances the church of Yevon blames on human sin. Tidus, a star of the water sport blitzball, is suddenly thrown a thousand years from his home and joins the young summoner Yuna on a pilgrimage to stop Sin. Their companions — the stern guardian Auron, the proud Lulu, the cheerful Wakka, the spirited Rikku and the beast-man Kimahri — make up one of the most memorable parties in the series. X-2 shifts focus to three heroines — Yuna, Rikku and Paine — with a lighter tone that still hides a story about how a world changes after a great sacrifice.

Why it's still worth playing today

FINAL FANTASY X is widely seen as a high point of classic JRPGs: thoughtful turn-based combat, aeon summons that act as full battle units, Nobuo Uematsu's iconic score (including the famous «To Zanarkand» theme), and a story about love, faith and sacrifice that still hits hard more than two decades on. FINAL FANTASY X-2 adds a freer, more open-ended structure with a completion percentage and multiple endings. Together they pack dozens to hundreds of hours of classic role-playing into one key — a great entry point to the series and essential classic for anyone who loves big stories.

System requirements and platform

The games are built for Windows and distributed through Steam. This isn't a demanding project — the HD remaster runs comfortably even on modest modern PCs and laptops, while the 4K support shows off the updated visuals on larger displays. On Steam Deck and Linux it runs through the Proton compatibility layer; there's no official Linux support from the publisher, but the community widely finishes both games that way.

Activating the key on Steam

After payment you receive a key. Open the Steam client, choose «Activate a Product on Steam» in the «Games» menu, enter the key — and FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster is added to your library. The key is global with no regional restrictions: it activates in any country without a VPN.
