Euro Truck Simulator 2: haul across Europe with a global Steam key
Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) is a trucking simulator by the Czech studio SCS Software, originally released back in October 2012 and since grown into one of the most enduring and beloved sims on PC. You take the wheel of a real European hauler, hook up a trailer and hit the road: from Berlin to Prague, Paris to Milan, Warsaw to Istanbul. Along the way โ a scaled-down real map of Europe, day-night cycle, weather, road signs, fuel stops, ferries and hundreds of kilometres of tarmac. Here you buy a global Steam key: activate and drive.
What this game is and why people play it for years
ETS2 isn't about racing or action. It's a meditative, almost zen experience: you steer your truck, watch driver fatigue, fuel use and delivery deadlines, listen to the radio and enjoy the sunset over the motorway. Under the hood it's a full economic management game: you start as a hired driver, save up for your own truck, then open a logistics company, hire other drivers, buy garages across cities and level up your skills. The trucks are licensed from real manufacturers โ Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Scania, MAN, DAF, Renault, Iveco โ and each can be tuned: cabins, engines, lights, paint jobs, aerodynamics.
What the base game includes
The base Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a standalone, fully complete game. It already features a large chunk of Western and Central Europe: Germany, France, partial Italy, the Benelux countries, the UK, Switzerland, Austria, Poland and more. You get several truck brands, a career mode, community multiplayer and endless deliveries. You don't need to buy anything else to start โ the map DLC are world expansions for those who want more.
Map DLC: new countries on your map
The signature feature of ETS2 is its official paid map expansions. They aren't separate games but add-ons to the base version: install an expansion and a new region with cities, roads, landmarks and local flavour appears on your single unified world map. This catalogue gathers the most popular ones:
- Going East! (2013) โ the very first expansion: Poland, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary. Eastern Europe with its narrow roads and atmospheric towns.
- Vive la France! (2016) โ a huge reworked France: from Paris and the Riviera to the Atlantic coast, vineyards, bridges and the French countryside.
- Italia (2017) โ sunny Italy in full: Rome, Milan, Venice, Sicily with Mount Etna, switchbacks and Mediterranean scenery.
- Beyond the Baltic Sea (2018) โ the Baltics and the northeast: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, southern Finland and a slice of western Russia with Saint Petersburg and Kaliningrad.
- Road to the Black Sea (2019) โ the route to the Black Sea: Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, including the Bosphorus bridges and Balkan atmosphere.
How the DLC differ and what to pick
Each map is self-contained and plugs in independently โ grab one or collect several. Want the east and old-Europe vibe โ go for Going East! and Road to the Black Sea. Love the south, switchbacks and the sea โ Italia and Vive la France!. Drawn to the north, ferries and Nordic flavour โ Beyond the Baltic Sea is your pick. Every DLC adds dozens of new cities, freight companies, landmarks and unique views. ๐ด Important: any of these expansions requires the base Euro Truck Simulator 2 already installed โ activate it first, then add the maps.
How to activate the key in Steam
After payment you receive an activation code. Open the Steam client, click ยซGamesยป at the bottom-left, then ยซActivate a Product on Steamยป, paste the key and confirm โ the game or DLC instantly appears in your library. The keys are global: they activate on Steam in any region worldwide, no VPN required. Adding new maps doesn't reset your progress โ your company, garages and drivers stay put.
Platforms: Windows, Linux, macOS and Steam Deck
ETS2 officially supports Windows, Linux and macOS, and on the handheld Steam Deck it's rated Verified โ so the same key works across all of these. The game is light on hardware and runs comfortably even on modest rigs, and a wheel and pedals (if you have them) take immersion to another level.
