Elite Dangerous: buy a Steam gift and fly off into your own galaxy
Elite Dangerous is a space sim by the British studio Frontier Developments, the heir to the legendary Elite from 1984. At its core is a 1:1 Milky Way: roughly 400 billion star systems, almost every one of which you can visit. You take a commander's seat in the cockpit, and from there the story is yours β trade rare goods between stations, mine resources in asteroid belts, hunt bounties, chart systems no one has reached before, or build a fortune on smuggling. There's no rigid storyline here, just a living galaxy that shifts along with its players.
We sell Elite Dangerous as a Steam gift: we deliver the game straight to your Steam account through a bot. Two options are available β the base version and the Deluxe Edition with the big Odyssey expansion.
What the base version includes
The base version is the full Elite Dangerous: open-space flight, combat, trade, mining and exploration. One key point: the Horizons expansion (planetary landings, SRV surface drives, Engineers and module crafting, multicrew ships) is now bundled into the base game for free. So buying the base gets you both deep space and planet surfaces.
What the Deluxe Edition adds
The Deluxe Edition is the base game plus the major Odyssey expansion. Odyssey opens up on-foot gameplay: for the first time you leave your ship, walk across planet surfaces, enter settlements and stations, and take part in firefights with weapons in hand. It's the series' biggest leap β from a pure space sim to a blended "ship + commander" experience. If you want to see all of Elite Dangerous, go for the Deluxe.
What makes Elite Dangerous stand out
- A 1:1 galaxy β a real map of the Milky Way that can take hundreds of hours to explore.
- A deep flight sim with proper Newtonian physics and a flight-assist combat mode.
- Total freedom: trader, fighter, explorer, pirate or engineer β you pick the role.
- A shared online universe where player actions shape system politics and economy.
- Great support for gamepad, flight stick (HOTAS) and VR β the cockpit feels alive.
How we deliver the gift
After ordering, you provide your Steam friend invite link and your account region. Our bot adds itself as your friend and sends the gift β this usually takes a couple of minutes. You don't need to accept the friend request: the bot handles everything and leaves your friends list once delivery is done. Steam Guard is not required for this.
Important conditions
A Steam gift is region-bound, so your account region must match the gift region β otherwise Steam simply won't let you accept it. The second condition: Elite Dangerous must not already be in your account's library (a gift can't be accepted for a game you already own). Pick the variant for your region and it all goes smoothly.
Which version to pick
If you're just getting to know the series and want to see whether it's for you, go with the base version β there are hundreds of hours of space, trade, exploration and planetary-surface flying here, since Horizons is already inside. If you're keen to step out of the ship, wander through settlements and feel the scale of the universe on foot as well as from the cockpit, that's the Deluxe Edition with Odyssey. Many commanders come around to Odyssey sooner or later, so grabbing the Deluxe up front is often handier than buying the expansion later.
Platforms and controls
The Steam version is a PC (Windows) game. Elite Dangerous plays well with a regular mouse and keyboard or a gamepad, but it truly shines with a HOTAS flight stick and in VR β the cockpit is modelled down to the instruments, and the sense of flight becomes tangible. The game supports Steam Cloud, so your commander's progress is tied to your account. Before buying, make sure your PC can handle a space sim β especially if you plan to play Odyssey with its on-foot gameplay and detailed surfaces.
Where a new commander should start
Spend your first hours on the training missions β they cover docking, hyperspace jumps between systems and basic combat. After that, pick the role that suits you: calm trading and hauling, mining in asteroid fields, exploring the galaxy's distant arms, or combat contracts. In Elite Dangerous money means new ships and modules, and new ships mean new possibilities. There's no rush: the galaxy is vast, and it'll wait for you as long as you need.
