Dungeon Defenders: towers, heroes and hordes for four
Dungeon Defenders is the game where you first carefully place towers, traps and auras, then dive into the thick of the fight as your own hero and personally carve through goblins, ogres and dark elves. Trendy Entertainment released it in October 2011, neatly fusing two genres: tower defense and an action-RPG with character progression, loot and gear. The result is a rare hybrid where placement tactics, reflexes and how beefy your hero has grown all matter.
The core loop is simple and moreish: every map has Eternia Crystals you can't let the monsters reach. Between waves you build your defense; during waves you finish off whatever breaks through, repair towers and grab loot. The deeper you go, the more builds, classes and trap combinations open up β and the more you want to optimize every second of the build phase.
Why it's fun to play
The heart of Dungeon Defenders is four-player co-op. You can solo it, but four players is where it truly clicks: one handles towers, one tanks, one hoovers up loot, one plugs the holes in the defense. The classes feel distinct β the Squire plants sturdy walls and ballistas, the Apprentice casts magical towers, the Huntress lays traps, the Monk hangs auras. Each hero brings its own style and set of defenses, so building a balanced team is a joy in itself.
On top of that sits a cartoonish but charming look, light humor and endless progression: hero levels, gear upgrades, pets and the chase for rare loot on higher difficulties. It's the kind of game you sink into for an evening with friends and somehow look up to find it's morning.
What you get and which editions exist
We deliver Dungeon Defenders as a Steam gift β once delivered, the game or the edition you picked lands straight in your library. There are a few options, so pick the one that fits:
- Dungeon Defenders β a single copy of the base game. The ideal start if you want to try the series or play solo.
- Dungeon Defenders 4-Pack β four copies of the game in one bundle. Grabbed to hand out to friends and build a full four-player co-op without buying separately for everyone.
- Lost Eternia Shards Complete DLC β the full "Quest for the Lost Eternia Shards" campaign (all four parts). It adds new maps β Mistymire Forest, the desert city of Morrago, the underwater Aquanos and the floating Sky City β plus new bosses, enemies, a pet, skins and early access to Nightmare Mode. Note: this is a DLC and needs the base Dungeon Defenders already installed.
- Dungeon Defenders Ultimate Collection β the maxed-out set: the game itself plus all four Lost Eternia Shards parts, mission packs (Assault, Karathiki Jungle, Tinkerer's Lab, Talay Mining Complex), hero DLCs (Barbarian, Jester, Series EV, Summoner, New Heroes) and costumes. Around 25 items in one bundle β if you want everything at once, this is the version.
Edition or DLC: how to avoid mistakes
If you don't own the game yet, get the single copy, the 4-Pack (for a group) or the Ultimate Collection right away. Lost Eternia Shards Complete is strictly an add-on: it won't run without the base game, so buy it only if Dungeon Defenders is already on your account. If you're unsure and want both the game and all the content in one go, the Ultimate Collection settles it completely β no need to buy separate DLCs.
How the gift is delivered
Delivery runs through our bot as a regular Steam Gift. You provide your friend invite link and your account region, the bot adds itself as your friend, sends the gift (usually within a couple of minutes) and leaves your friends list after delivery β no need to accept a request. Steam Guard isn't required. There are just two conditions: your Steam account region must match the gift region, and you must not already own the game in your library β otherwise Steam simply won't let you accept the gift.
