DRAGON BALL FighterZ: the team fighter from the Dragon Ball universe

DRAGON BALL FighterZ is a high-speed 3-versus-3 fighting game that Arc System Works released with publisher Bandai Namco in January 2018. If you grew up on the anime and always wanted to control Goku, Vegeta or Frieza as though the picture stepped straight off the TV screen, this is exactly that game. Hand-drawn art, deafening super moves, cinematic finish cameras and combos that stretch across the whole screen. What the game is and why people still play it

The heart of DRAGON BALL FighterZ is team battles. You build a trio of characters and swap between them mid-fight, calling teammates in for assists and long combo strings. The barrier to entry is low: there are auto-combos and simplified specials, so you'll win your first fight without any experience. But the skill ceiling is enormous — at tournament level DBFZ turns into a high-speed match of resources, timings, assists and reads. A lively community, regular online battles and an anime-styled lobby hub have kept the game in shape for years.

The 3-versus-3 system and modes

A squad of three isn't just three lives. A well-timed character swap heals the fighter you tagged out, assists extend combos and cover you, and Sparking Blast gives you a burst at the decisive moment. Beyond online play you get: an Arc System Works story campaign with the original heroine Android 21, arcade ladders, a training room with detailed prompts, and local matches. A newcomer sharpens the basics in training; a veteran keeps mining the system's depth for years — there's plenty for both.

The base game — the foundation of the collection

The base DRAGON BALL FighterZ includes the starting roster, the whole story campaign, arcade, training and online modes. That's enough to fully feel the pace and decide whether it's for you. Every character from the season passes is bought on top of the base, so the game itself (or any edition that already contains it) is required to start — a lone pass without the game won't run.

Editions: FighterZ Edition and Legendary Edition

If you'd rather not assemble the set piece by piece, take an edition — the base game is already inside:

• FighterZ Edition — the base game plus the first FighterZ Pass, i.e. the eight season-one fighters. The sweet spot between the bare game and the maxed-out bundle: both roster growth and savings versus buying the pass separately.
• Legendary Edition — the fullest version: the base game, FighterZ Pass 1, 2 and 3, the bonus fighter Android 21 (Lab Coat) and cosmetics (commentator voices, stamps, lobby avatars). Essentially the whole current roster in a single purchase — grab it if you want everything at once.

Season passes: FighterZ Pass 1, 2 and 3

The passes are character sets organized by season, and they are add-ons, not a standalone game: each one requires an already-installed base DRAGON BALL FighterZ.

• FighterZ Pass (season one) — eight fighters: Bardock, Broly, Fused Zamasu, Vegito (SSGSS), Goku (SSGSS), Vegeta (SSGSS), Android 17 and Cooler, plus early access to Android 21. Each comes with its own stamps, avatars and alternate colors.
• FighterZ Pass 2 — later-arc fighters: Jiren, Videl, Broly (DBS), Gogeta (SSGSS), Goku (GT) and Janemba.
• FighterZ Pass 3 — the season-three five: Kefla, Goku (Ultra Instinct), Master Roshi, Super Baby 2 and Gogeta (SS4).

If you don't own the base yet, the Legendary Edition usually makes more sense than buying each pass one at a time.

Key region: Global and CIS

Some items in the listing are Global keys: they activate in any region with no restriction, and you don't need to think about your account region at all. Others are marked CIS — they're meant for Steam accounts in the CIS region, and Steam may refuse such a key on an account from a different region. Before buying, just match the item's label to your account region so the code goes through cleanly.

How to activate the key on Steam

The process is standard and takes a minute. Open Steam, click "Games" at the bottom-left → "Activate a Product on Steam…", enter the code you received and confirm. The base game or edition appears in your library ready to download, while a season pass adds its fighters on top of the already-installed game. The purchase is bound to your account for good — no subscriptions, rentals or renewals. The code arrives at the email given at checkout and is duplicated inside your order on the site.

Video refunds and sanctioned regions

A key refund is possible only with a single continuous video recording with no editing or cuts: one unbroken take — from paying for DRAGON BALL FighterZ through receiving the code and attempting activation. If there's no such video, the key is non-refundable for any reason a failure occurs, so start recording in advance. Separately, on sanctioned regions: Steam officially restricts purchases and wallet top-ups in Crimea and similar zones. Per player experience activation there usually works, but we don't control Steam's behaviour and can't give guarantees — if in doubt, check with support before ordering.

What to play it on

The game is built for Windows PC. On Steam Deck and Linux it runs through the Proton compatibility layer: it goes well for many, but that isn't the same as official Deck verification — check the current compatibility status on the game's Steam page. For online matches a stable connection helps: fighters are sensitive to latency, and even a small lag breaks combo timings. Steam Guard isn't required to activate the key, but turning it on to protect your account is a good idea.
